Mr Sarosh Mody & trainer M Eshwer leading The Wolf (S Zervan Up), winner of The Obligado Trophy Div-1

The followers of money returned home with a hole in their pockets as fancied runners failed to live up to the expectation on Wednesday at Mysore. Michael Eshwer trained The Wolf (Arabian Gulf-Amazing Senorita / Manjri Stud) emerged victorious in the division I of the Obligado Trophy. The Wolf raced almost eighth till the last furlong but with a late dash managed to overhaul the front runners in a grand stand finish. Born For Success was in the lead from the start. Ice Splendour and Rare Emerald joined the issue on entering the straight and the favourite Country’s Princess who usually prefers to cut the wind started to improve from behind. The four of them began to drift out of the straight course inside the last 300 metres and The Wolf who maintained a straight course on the inside was catching up fast. The Wolf literally flew in towards the closing stages to hit the winning post first beating Born For Success by three parts of a length. Ice Splendour and Country’s Princess finished close to be third and fourth respectively.

Another Manjri bred contender, Avocet (Arabian Gulf-Star Princess) who was racing on this track for the first time after moving down from Mumbai turned out to be the biggest upset of the day in the Nagamangala Plate. Avocet raced in mid-field till turning for home even as Clever Trick brought the field into the straight. Saving ground from the inside Avocet crept up and with a good gallop took charge inside the last 100 metres and drew clear. Mr. Carpe, a winner in its last start did well to finish second ahead of Tulip. Clever Trick ended up fourth. Tragedy struck in the race when the well backed Cosmic Touch fractured its hip bone when it jumped out of the gates and had to be put to sleep. The hot favourite was trotted near the gates before the start but the vets decided to run the horse.

Trainer C.D.Monnappa wrapped both the divisions of the Kolar Plate. Jockey A.Imran Khan rode Sufficient Proof (Burden of Proof-Cool Jazz / Kunigal Stud) to an encore in the division I of the race. Sufficient Proof was settled well in third behind Skyjet and Markus Sittikus. Inside the last 400 metres Sufficient Proof started to gain ground and surged ahead. Demanding Format began to throw a strong challenge towards the closing stages but Imran Khan kept riding out Sufficient Proof and the duo were well in front at the finish.  Young Gallant was withdrawn before the race.

Color Proof (Burden Of Proof-Color Me Red / Kunigal Stud) who had signed off the winter season with a win continued to dominate with a win in the lower division. On turning for home the firm favourite Extra Spark was the first to take the initiative. Color Proof who was racing in fifth all the way progressed from the outside to challenge Extra Spark and sped past easily. Espasia covered ground from the wide outside to get the better of Extra Spark for the second spot. Top Trainer filled the judge's frame.

Ranjeet Shinde trained Sachi (Win Legend-Empress Ann / Hargobind Stud) was a winner long way from home in the Mysore Plate, the opener of the day. Sachi took a good jump from the gates and shot to the lead. Into the home stretch the filly had a sizable lead and built over it to win by a lengthening margin. Script Writer managed to beat Ayra's Delight for the second place while Likeastar finished fourth.

Vishal Yadav trained Bryant Park (Hurricane State-Aryanosh / HArgobind Stud) sprang a surprise in the lower division of the Obligado Trophy. Ireland set out on a start to finish bid and Bryant Park sat behind in chase. Speed Queen raced in third and Cool Dude in fourth. Inside the last 400 metres Ireland started to lose pace and Bryant Park grabbed the opportunity and surged ahead from the outside. The fight was only for the minor placing with Cool Dude edging out Speed Queen for the second place on the last stride. Scaramouche finished fourth.

The top weighted Brigadier (Ace-Star Angel / Poonawalla Stud) from trainer J.Saravanan’s stables managed to edge out the fancied Esoterical in the dying moments of the H.Krishna Naik Memorial Plate. Esoterical surged ahead to take it up approaching the final furlong but the saddle reportedly shifted and started to run a bit erratic. Brigadier began to gallop strongly but was hanging in badly. The rider had the gelding in control and beat Esoterical by a neck close to the winning post. The rider of third placed Backwind unsuccessfully objected against Esoterical for interference in the last 100 metres.

M.Bobby trained Passing Fancy (Alnasr Alwasheek-Scarsdale / Manju meadows Stud) who had not run for over a year showed plenty of speed to make every post a winning one in the Balamuri Plate. It was a first win for apprentice Mohammed Mushraf. Smartest out of the gates Passing Fancy got to the lead quickly. On the home stretch Dazzle Away and Sazae San were being ridden all out to get to the leader but they just couldn't match the strides and fizzled out. Dazzle Away finished second and Country;s Charm third.
