Trainer C.V.G.K.Kishore who returned from his holiday in the US started off the Summer campaign with a grand double. Castle King lifted the Chevalier Trophy, the feature of the day and Tremendous won the opener, a scurry for maiden 3 years old. Both of them were piloted by Arshad Alam.

Castle King (Hymn-Castle Beauty / Jai Govind Stud) who was improving with every run was the second in demand while New World who had finished a runner-up to Daylite on the opening day garnering the maximum support. Campeon set the tempo over the mile trip with New World a close second and Castle King just behind in third. As they turned for home New World looked to be out of steam and Castle King began to range up beside Campeon. Passing the 300 metres board Castle King had taken charge and drew clear. While Campeon held on in second Miss International flashed in to take the third spot from Sofast. Kaguya Himei played up in the gates injuring the rider and was withdrawn.

Tremendous (Sedgefield-Delectable Baby / Jai Govind Stud) just managed to edge out One Step Ahead in the Bidadi Plate, the opener of the day. One Step Ahead set off on a start to finish bid and was well ahead entering the home stretch. Tremendous started to creep up along the inside and finding One Step Ahead drifting out of the straight course inside the last furlong Arshad began to ride out and prevailed by half a length at the finish. Silver Wood and Chrome finished third and fourth respectively. Saluting Centurion fell down in the saddling area and was withdrawn.

Trainer B.K.Narendra and jockey S.John also combined to score a popular double through Secret Touch and Grand Success. Secret Touch (Royal Gladiator-Think Of Us / Pratap Stud) who had won on this track exactly a year ago was sent off as the hot favourite in the Arakalgudu Plate. The 6 year old shot to the lead as the gates opened and made every post a winning one. Bold Police, a last outing winner improved late to finish second. Alecia was third and Society Music fourth.

Grand Success (Catienus-Maria T / Poona Stud) had won a Million during the Invitation weekend at Chennai but ran below par on the opening day of the season. With jockey S.John assigned the task of guiding its fortunes, Grand Success was sent off as the favourite among the dozen runners in the kollegal Plate. Grand Success was settled well in about fourth or fifth early on and began to move up on entering the straight. Grand Success took charge early on the straight and Siddhani came up with a challenge but the forceful riding of John ensured a smooth victory for Grand Success. Class Above finished third and Jersey Bride ended up fourth.

On a day when most of the races were won by fancied runners, Go Man Go (Danehill Star-Game On / Galloping Acres Stud) emerged as a big upset in the higher division of the Chaitanya Chakram Plate. Go Man covered ground from the rear on the final straight to challenge the favourite Robinhood Pandey and win by half a length. Ephialties ran on well to take the third spot with Rustic Sunrise finishing fourth.

G.T.Surender trained Ice Weapon (Black Cash-Willy Nilly / Equus Stud) won the lower division in an impressive fashion. Sivanta went to the lead early and tried start to finish tactics. Ice Weapon gradually improved from the outside and with a good burst of speed took the inner route on the straight to take charge and wrap it up. Happy Victory finished third.

Feroz Khan trained Counter Point (Dylan Thomas-Growyourown / Nanoli Stud) justified the favouritism in the Sutlej Plate. A last outing winner during winter, Counter Point was backed with conviction to be the on-money favourite. Travelling with the front bunch of five runners Counter Point was pulled on the outside to make a bid as they turned for home. Silver Prince was the first to take the initiative on top of the straight and Counter Point soon joined the fight. The two came moved away from the rest and after a keen tussle Counter Point prevailed by three parts of a length. Born For Stakes was third another three lengths away. Here’s Abbey after a lethargic beginning did well to finish on the frame.
