Jockey Shailesh Shinde Suspended

The Stewards of the RWITC, showing that they mean business, sentenced jockey Shailesh Shinde to a 13 month suspension. They have found him guilty of not allowing his mount to run on merits. Ivanka, carrying the bottom weight, was held too far back and made no effort to bridge the yawning gap that Romantic Scene was building up. That Ivanka covered considerable ground towards the final furlong drove home the fact that Ivanka, who carried a lot of public money, was denied victory by the incompetence on this occasion by its rider. To make matters worse, Shinde was found wanting yet again on the same day when he lost on the last stride on Queens Court. Medtias Pride benefited on that occasion as Queens Court, who had managed to head the former, saw a casual Shinde throw away the race, literally snatching defeat from the jaws of victory on the hot favourite. The stewards in their meeting after the races on Sunday heard the defence of Shailesh Shinde and not being satisfied with his explanation and after viewing the evidence concluded that Shinde was guilty of not letting his mount run on merit and resorted to suspend his riding licence with effect from 1st March 2008 to 31st Dec 2008 for his ride on Ivanka and from 1st of Jan 2009 to the 30th of April 2009 for the Queens Court debacle.
