It was another day of upsets with only one favourite obliging in a card of seven races at Mysore. C.D.Monnappa trained Murcilago (Mathematecian-Prefix / Sans Craintes Stud) who had returned after a stint at Ooty beat the strongly fancied Constantine in the Stewards Cup, a sprint event for horses rated 80 and above that featured Thursday’s races. Constantine that had finished third in the Sprinters’ Cup at Chennai was installed as the overwhelming favourite among the five contenders for the Class 1 trip. Constantine showed early speed to lead the pack. Murcilago settled in chase followed by Castle King, Class Is Class – who made up ground after missing the jump- and Storming Home. As they approached the last 300 metres Murcilago closed up the gap on Constantine and surged forward. Constantine went down without a fight to be the runner-up. Class Is Class was third and Storming Home finished fourth. Last outing winner Castle King was clearly outclassed and ended up last.

Trainer Ranjeet Shinde who had pulled off a double of longshots a day earlier also led in the biggest upset of the day through Speartooth (Chatham Straight-Winning Talk / Ruia Stud) in the Goa Plate. Speartooth paid a whopping Rs.516 for a tenner on the tote. With jockey Shobhan Babu astride Speartooth made every post a winning one over the seven furlongs distance. Gusty Wind was in chase throughout the final straight only to land the second place. Ruthba warmed up late to take the third spot. The favourite Aspasia reportedly burst its blood vessels and finished last.

Country Stud bred Country’s Sher (Roi Maudit-Storm Command) trained by Feroz M Khan made an impressive debut in the Kapila Plate, for maiden 3 years old horses. Country’s Sher moved up quickly from an outward draw to get to the lead. Green Meadow joined the fight on entering the straight and began to challenge. Jockey Anil Baandal kept riding out Country’s Sher and the youngster galloped well to spare a length and a half to Green Meadow at the finish. Erebus was third and the favourite Clouds who missed the jump losing precious lengths and chances at the gates just managed to fill the judge’s frame.

Trainer Feroz M Khan was the only professional to score a double. His filly Country’s Princess (Roi Maudit-Cute Princess / Country Stud) happened to be the only favourite to oblige in the day in the higher division of the Alberetto Plate. Country’s Princess had failed as a favourite on the opening day but her supporters continued to back her with conviction and with money continuing to flow, the filly was sent off as an on-money favourite. Country’s Princess shot off to the front as the field was dispatched and led well into the straight. Inside the last 400 metres the filly extended the lead effortlessly and won comfortably. Matteo beat the rest to take the second place. Silken Water was third and Speed Queen fourth.

Md.Sajid Qureshi trained Gascony (Glory Of Dancer-Rubyanne / Nanoli Stud) who had shifted base from Mumbai last summer won the lower division of the Alberetto Plate. Ole set off on a start to finish bid with Order Order in hot chase. The two were involved in a duel on the straight when Gascony slipped in along the rails and pulled it off by three parts of a length from Ole. Order Order was third and La Piperi fourth.

Michael Eshwer trained Outer Space (Montjeo-Princess Killeen / Manjri Stud) who had finished fifth when saddled over five and a half furlongs on the opening day of the season left the entire field almost stranded over the seven furlongs in the higher division of the Hiriyur Plate. Apprentice M.Abhilash urged Outer Space to get to the lead from the outside as they settled down and began to extend the leeway passing the five furlongs marker. On the home stretch Outer Space enjoyed a sizable lead and carried it to the winning post without any fuss. Fantasy Living came in late to finish second ahead of Felix Legion and Dazzle Away.

Concentration (Case Law-Cosmic Flash / Jai Govind Stud) from trainer C.V.G.K.Kishore’s stables came up with a sterling finish to win the lower division. Round the bend the front running Saratoga Spring was collared by Peppr and Esterhazy even as Alps began to fade out. Concentration was pulled out to make a bid on the straight and the 7 year old responded with a dazzling gallop to floor the front runners and win it. Apprentice R.Ajay Kumar was ecstatic about getting his first career win and stood up on his mount in celebration even before crossing the winning post. Peppr finished second and Eudora came in late to take the third spot ahead of Esterhazy. Badshah and Blockbuster were withdrawn.
