NEW WORLD WINS THE H.R.C.TROPHY

J.Saravanan trained New World (Razeen-Forest Paradise / Usha Stud) came with a long stretched run from the rear to lift the H.R.C.Trophy, the main event of Thursday’s races at Mysore. Clever Trick who was handily placed till the final bend was the first to take the initiative on entering the straight and was looking good with a furlong left. New World travelling in second last began to raise a gallop on the wide outside from the top of the straight and sped past Clever Trick inside the last 100 metres. The top weighted Class Is Class did well to take the third spot ahead of Avocet.

Trainer C.V.G.K.Kishore pulled off a back to back double through Class Above and Tremendous. A 7-1 shot Class Above (Oath-Renascent / Manjri Stud) whose last win was exactly a year ago won the Anekal Plate in an impressive fashion. Skyjet set off in the lead followed by Dark William, Dreamliner, Class Above and the rest. Entering the straight Class Above was switched on the outside and with a fluent gallop swept past the front runners with apprentice R.Ajay Kumar on the saddle. Dark William rallied on to finish second. Umarkot and Tachyon finished third and fourth respectively.

Tremendous (Sedgefield-Delectable Baby / Jai Govind Stud) justified the on-money favouritism in the Shuntikoppa Plate. Al Dahma set off in the front but gave up before turning for home. Chrome found herself in front and then Speed Queen took charge approaching the last 300 metres. Tremendous started to cover ground from the outside and with jockey S.John riding confidently, sped past to win by two lengths. Country’s Angel was third another five lengths away. Masteroftherolls was withdrawn.

Michael Eshwer trained The Wolf (Arabian Gulf-Amazing Senorita / Manjri Stud) who was backed to the exclusion of the other runners scored an encore in an emphatic fashion in the Kemmannugundi Plate. Classic King took a smart jump and shot to the lead as the gates opened. The Wolf settled nicely in second despite Classic King taking a long lead. Inside the last 400 metres The Wolf was travelling extremely well and the 3 year old sizzled ahead with jockey Zervan not having to do much. Winged king beat Classic King for the second place. Diamond Attraction was withdrawn before the race.

Feroz M Khan trained Counter Point (Dylan Thomas-Growyourown / Nanoli Stud) who is in rousing form completed a hat-trick without much fuss. Racing in about fifth all the way Counter Point moved forward quickly to challenge Defining Moment on top of the straight and took charge effortlessly. Concentration made a vain bid but ran green under pressure and ended up second. Beautiful Effect and Defining Moment finished third and fourth respectively.

Second Lady (Burden Of Proof-Sugarbird / Kunigal Stud) from trainer Pratap Kamath’s stables was the biggest upset of the day, paying returns of over 50-1 in tote. Chasing Western Alliance all the way from the start Second Lady began to bridge the gap and surged ahead with a furlong left. Happy Victory was catching up fast from the outside but fell short by a neck at the finish. Western Alliance finished third ahead of New Sunrise.

S.Rakesh trained Eudora (C P West-Lottie Dundass / Galloping Acres Stud)who was winless from eleven starts finally came good in the lower division. Senator enjoyed a slender lead right from the start and was stubbornly ahead passing the 200 metres board. Eudora tried to make a run between horses but not finding space was pulled out. Galloping strongly Eudora sped past Senator in the dying moments of the race. Smart Mistral and Saratoga Spring filled the frame in that order. Esterhazy was a non-starter in the race.
