S.Rakesh trained Sea Lagoon (Phoenix Tower-North Sea / Manjri Stud) made every post a winning one in the Varahi Trophy, the main event of Wednesday’s races at Mysore. Script Writer garnered maximum support in the betting, closing as an on-money favourite. Sea Lagoon was second in demand at 7-2. Sea Lagoon rushed to the front as the gates opened and led the pack. Script Writer settled quickly in second. On the straight Sea Lagoon began to kick on gamely under S.John even as Script Writer tried its best to bridge the gap and won with a measure of comfort. Color Me rallied on to be third ahead of Esoterical.

Class Is Class (First Samurai-Special Tapestry / Jai Govind Stud) from trainer C.V.G.K. Kishore’s brigade stormed home to lift the Ashwajaya Plate, a seven furlongs race for horses rated 80 and above. It was a close finish with New World and the winner spared just a short-head at the wire. Daylite set off on a start to finish bid and Class Is Class along with New World braced the rear in second last and last position respectively. On the home stretch Daylite was still in front with Fink raising some hopes for a short while. Class Is Class and New World began to cover ground at a rapid pace from the rear and with their heads boggling went past the winning post locked together. The verdict went in favour of Class Is Class who had held out by a short-head. Sofast beat Daylite for the third place.

C.D.Monnappa trained Saigar (Varenar-Pinotage / New Approach) won the higher division of the Gundulpet Plate in a new course record timing over the 1100 metres scurry. Country’s Princess was backed to the exclusion of the other runners and the filly set off on a start to finish bid. Saigar settled well in second about three lengths adrift followed by Sardinia and the rest. On entering the final straight Saigar began to close the gap on Country’s Princess and surged ahead passing the distance post. The filly quickened nicely to pull off its maiden win in a fast timing. Country’s Princess ran on in second while Sardinia took the third place.

Michaela (Roderic O’Connor-Zabadani / Nanoli Stud) from the stables of Michael Eshwer won the lower division in an impressive fashion. The chestnut filly that was on debut was off to a smart start from the gates and settled nicely behind Chrome. Approaching the last 300 metres Michaela came up with an effortless fluent gallop from the outside and drew clear of Chrome. Country’s Angel and Saluting Centurion filled the frame in that order.

P.C.Tejaswi trained Scramouche (Placerville-Lecce / Exhiliration Stud) edged out Golden Cruise in the Davanagere Plate. Approaching the last furlong Golden Cruise forged ahead of Arrive and was looking to pull it off. Scaramouche started to make its bid from the inside, saving ground all the way and with a final dash sniffed out Golden Cruise in the dying moments. Arrive finished third and Catchy Charger was fourth. Vettel was withdrawn on veterinary grounds before the race.

B.K.Narendra trained Zizzi (Burden Of Proof-Indian Style / Kunigal Stud) whose last win was almost two years ago was sent off as the favourite at 16-10. Aretes was withdrawn on veterinary grounds near the starting gates and the field was reduced to eight runners. Travelling close to the rails in about fourth or fifth all the way Zizzi improved quickly to be in the fighting line up as they straightened up. Ayahuasca was the first to take the initiative and go ahead on the straight and Zizzi began to cover ground from the inside. Jockey John started to ride out the 6 year old and Zizzi stormed home by a little over a length from Ayahuasca. Saratoga Spring finished in the money and Friends Forever fourth.

S.Rakesh trained Eudora (C P west-Lottie Dundass / Galloping Acres Stud0 scored an encore in the Nethravati Plate.
