Trainer M Bobby leading Winged King (Arshad Alam Up), winner of The Bol Publication Trophy

M.Bobby trained Winged King (Black Cash-Dungeon Princess / Equus Stud) was given a good ride by Arshad Alam en-route to victory in the BOL Publication Trophy, the main event of Wednesday’s races at Mysore. The seven year old that had finished as a runner up in its last essay three weeks ago was neglected in the betting. Queen showed early speed to get to the lead and set off on a start to finish bid. The lead started to diminish on the straight with Savannah Sound inching closer. Winged King racing in about seventh till the top of the straight weaved through the field and with a burst of speed sped past Savannah Sound. Queen finished third and Blue Zone fourth.

Trainer M.Bobby had a good day at the races completing a rare hat-trick.  Smart Mistral and Extra Spark were the other two victors from the stable. Extra Spark (Sussex-Machiavelli / Badal Stud) a consistent performer over the last few runs showed plenty of legs while clinching the Queen Of The Hills Plate. Extra Spark raced in about fourth while Tulip cut the wind followed by Campeon and The Wolf followed by the rest. On entering the straight Extra Spark wasted no time and sped past to grab the lead. Reanna followed Extra Spark till the post to finish second. Campeon finished third while the favourite The Wolf who had to pass through traffic snarls finished a tame fourth.

Smart Mistral (Sedgefield-Oberon’s Mistral / Jai Govind Stud) went on to lift the Red Chieftan Plate. Esterhazy set off on a start to finish bid followed by Kodals Princess, Smart Mistral and the rest. Inside the last 300 metres Smart Mistral started to get stronger from the outside and after a duel with Esterhazy, surged ahead by a neck at the finish. Badshah rallied close to the inner rails to take the third place on the track. There was a steward’s enquiry into the running of the race after Esterhazy ran erratic on the straight and the rider of fifth placed Kodals Princess also raised an objection against the rider of Esterhazy. Following the Steward’s enquiry Esterhazy was disqualified and the order of placing revised accordingly.

Michael Eshwer trained Sardinia (Arabian Gulf-Otelcaliforni / Manjri Stud) edged out stable companion Clouds in the Ganjam Plate, the opener of the day. Clouds was the favourite in the race at 14-10 while Saddinia was the second in demand at fours. Clouds improved early after a sluggish beginning to get to the front within the first furlong. On the home stretch Clouds was still in the lead and Sardinia began to challenge from the outside. The rider of Clouds sensed the danger and picked up his stick early on the straight but Sardinia travelled the better and managed to stick out its neck ahead at the finish. Silver Wood took the third position in front of Eon.

Vikram Appachu trained Malki a (Glory Of Dancer-Rubyanne / Nanoli Stud) who had won just once from 22 starts justified the favouritism in the Karighatta Plate. The 6 year old was sent off at 13-10 among the eight runners. Country’s Fortune set off in the lead and Malkia settled nicely in second. Invincible Wish ran third another two lengths away followed by the rest of them at a distance. On entering the straight Malkia was quick to get to the front and Invincible Wish began to challenge inside the last furlong. The two went all out since then and Malkia held on gamely by half a length. Al Dorado finished on to be third many lengths away.

The 6 year old Zizzi (Burden Of Proof-Indian Style / Kunigal Stud) from trainer B.K.Narendra’s yard did well to score an encore in the Scone Stone Plate. Zizzi saved ground all the way travelling close to the rails, improved on the straight to tackle Concentration and prevailed by half a length at the finish. Beautiful Effect was finishing on being third ahead of Anonymous.
