ARRIVE WINS THE AMBA VILAS PALACE TROPHY

A Change in name brought a change in the fortunes of S.Santosh Rao trained Arrive (Medicean-Tetisheri / Kunigal Stud) in the higher division of the Amba Vilas Palace Trophy, that featured the day’s card at Mysore. Arrive – Ex Name Arrivederci a longshot at 8-1 jumped out smartly from an outward draw and rushed towards the fence to grab the lead. The 5 year old set a two lengths lead with Kir Royale, Golden Cruise and Dynamic Thea in chase followed by the rest. On entering the straight Arrive picked up momentum to increase the lead and won comfortably. Ice Splendour came with a long stretched run to take the runner-up berth ahead of Kir Royale. Trust Me Boy finished fourth.

 Ranjeet Shinde trained Sakchi (Phoenix Tower-One Star / Manjri Stud) scored an encore in the Kokkare Belluru Plate, a seven forlungs trip for horses rated 60 and above. Gelignite that had remained unbeaten on this track continued to be on the top in the betting. Jockey Arshad Alam who is leading the jockeys’ table took Gelignite to the front in its customary fashion. Gelignite had a good lead of nearly four lengths as they showed up on the straight and held on to it till approaching the final furlong. From there on Gelignite started to shorten its strides and Sakchi along with Class Above came pounding from behind. The two sped past the leader and headed past the winning post in a close finish and Sakchi had prevailed by a ‘head’. Gelignite stayed on in third and Arrete had originally placed fourth. The rider of Arrete failed to weigh in and was disqualified following a steward’s enquiry. Winged King was declared fourth.

S.Rakesh trained Ayra’s Delight (Top Class-Acquisition / Mukteshwar Stud) came out of its maiden ranks in the lower division of the Sindhu Plate, a sprint event for maiden 3 years old horses. Ayra’s Delight settled in close third early when Eye Of The Needle and One Step Ahead disputed the lead. On entering the straight the piping hot favourite One Step Ahead stepped up the pace to go to the front but was soon joined by Ayra’s Delight who sped past and extended the lead to over six lengths. One Step Ahead had to settle for the second place. There was a fight for the third place with Honey went Money beating Beauty Ikon. Amazing Beauty was permitted to be withdrawn.

Jockey Arshad Alam rode a double to move to the top of the jockey’s tally. He was up C.D.Monnappa’s Haloween’s Way (Lucifer Sam-Eagle Claws / Sans Craintes Stud) en-route to an impressive win in the higher division of the Sindhu Plate. The favourite Scorpene went on a start to finish bid followed by Brown Beauty. Haloween’s Way settled well in third and the rest followed. Scorpene led till approaching the last 300 metres when Haloween’s Way came with a big gallop to take charge and go away. Brown Beauty beat Scorpene for the second place. Star Binder finished fourth. 

G.T.Surender trained Strive And Serve (Tirol-Polistatic / Capricon Stud) surprised the pack in the Serengeti Plate. The 8 year old gelding ridden by Arshad Alam showed urgency and went to the front within the first furlong. Leading all the way Strive And Serve came in first on the straight and kicked on gamely. Here’s Abbey who was slow at the start flashed on late to finish second ahead of green Emerald. Pepper King finished fourth.

Jockey S.Zervan timed his run on Pratap Kamath trained Catchy Charger (Mambo Ministrel-Wisdom Queen / Bishan Stud) well to clinch the lower division of the Amba Vilas Palace Trophy. Catharsis tracked the leader Al Dahma till entering the home stretch and then forged ahead. Catchy Charger who raced in about fifth or sixth till the final turn started to improve gradually and with a good gallop on the straight inched closer to Catharsis and surged ahead by a neck in the concluding stages. Scaramouche finished in the money while Castlebar took the fourth place.

Pratap earned his second winner through Spinning Chakram (Lucifer Sam-Hyacinth / Sans Craintes Stud) in the higher division of the Nadir Plate. Spinning Chakram was taken to the front as the gates opened and the 6 year old made it a start to finish affair successfully. Speed Queen was in chase all through the last 300 metres but could only land up second. Gascony finished third and Ice Weapon fourth.

Feroz M Khan trained Ascendency (Multidimensional-Star Supremacy / Usha Stud) who shifted base after three starts at Mumbai won its maiden race in the lower division of the Nadir Plate. Ireland settled well to lead the field and Ascendency was quick to settle behind the leader. On entering the straight Ascendency took over the running without much fuss and won easily from Ireland. Generous Gesture who had missed the jump came in late to take the third spot.

Moroccan (Phoenix Tower-Baileys On Line / Manjri Stud) gave trainer M.Bobby his solitary win for the day in the Bannur Plate. The top weighted Dark William shot to the front and brought the field into view on the straight. Moroccan racing in third started to gain ground and stormed ahead mid-way up the straight even as Port Blair sneaked in through the shortest way. The two fought out till the end with Moroccan holding out by a neck at the finish. Dark William held on to the third position from Savannah Sound.
