Trainer S Dominic leading Honour (P P Dhebe Up), winner of The Rajah S.R.K Ranga Row Memorial Cup

The Dominic schooled Honour shocked the followers of form in the Ranga Row Cup, the plum event at the races on Saturday. The favourite Lord Darlington in his effort to register his second straight success made a pillar to post attempt but failed to quicken in the final furlong. At this juncture, it was Honour who produced a sparkling gallop in the hands of the winning apprentice Prashant Debe to cruise home ahead of Madame Bovary who snatched the runner–up berth from Lord Darlington.

Back after a minor setback in training, Saladin from trainer Padmanabhan’s yard looked good in the upper division of the Mystic Memory Plate, a whipless race. A speedy customer Saladin enjoyed the advantage, running freely in front to provide the top Mumbai pro Sandesh a win. Shining Magic after a sluggish start took the second spot ahead  ahead of Mariko.

An identical effort by Sandesh on the lesser fancied Miss Adler in the lower division of the race failed to bring home the desired result, the strongly fancied favourite Aguante from trainer Mahesh's yard, driven out to win by Srinath proving too good at end. The shift in the odds offered on Irfan Ghatala-trained Zafrina who had finished a game good second behind Papadokia in her last effort put a seed of doubt in the minds of big bettors in the upper division of the Star Contender Plate. And those who chose to stay out were delighted at end, Zafrina producing a below par performance. Samar Singh-trained Romantic Helen went on a start to finish mission but failed to peg back  Interesting who got up in time to overhaul the front runner in the hands of jockey Kiran Naidu.

Blazing the track in the morning trials, the Darius Byramji-trained Fjord  made a notable winning debut in the lower division of the event.  Ark Royal another from  Ghatala’s yard garnered the maximum support  but failed in his mission to make a race of it. Fjord displayed good speed hitting the front soon after coming under the starter’s flag and had no problem staying clear of the rest .
However, much to the relief of Irfan, Salazaar made a smashing winning debut. The debutant looked a picture of fitness at the parade ring and the bred in the purple youngster justified the confidence of his supporters in style in the Southern Regent Trophy. Jersey Beauty who went in chase of the favourite, found it hard to match strides with the favourite and weakened to finish third. Towering Heights made ground in the final furlong to take the second spot.

Neil Darashah schooled Royal Sceptre back after he proved to be a costly failure last time out was again fancied in the Capricorn Plate run over a mile and the talented winner produced his best  providing  Srinath an arm-chair ride to success. Amazing Skill did well to take the third spot ahead of last start winner Fabulous while In the Sunrise failed to make a mark.

The ten to one shot Summer Star won the Basque Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs in the hands of Ramu. The top fancy Just Fabulous packed up after raising hopes in the straight to eventually finish in the ruck.
