PRITHVIRAJ, IRFAN AND PRASANNA RECORD DOUBLE

By Ikram Khan | 18 Aug 2016 | BANGALORE

Trainer S Ganapathy leading Light of Magic (V R Jagadeesh Up), winner of The Winner's Circle Trophy Div-1

Trainers, Prithviraj,  Irfan Ghatala and Prasanna Kumar  shared the honours on the penultimate day of the summer season, recording a double apiece and the punters again had the better of exchanges, three firm favourites and an equal number of second choices coming through in the eight-event card.

It has proved to be good summer for Prithviraj with dozen winners to his credit and the top apprentice Prashanth Dhebe must thank Prithvi for the opportunities he provided Dhebe and the apprentice too paid back in gold pulling off a number of good winners.

Prithvi struck with the ten to one shot Flying Bullet in the upper division of the Udhagamandalam Stakes. The moody and the very unreliable Prithviraj produced a winning gallop at the all-important end in the hands of another Prithvi apprentice T M Prashanth to upset the applecart of the heavily fancied favourite Emancipation who finished a poor third behind Power And Strength.

In the next event, the Noble Princess Stakes, the second in demand at the betting ring Emidio had it easy, snuffing out the challenge of Lightning Strikes while the favourite Duke Of Clarence reportedly suffered an injury and came back lame.

The on-money favourite Gypsy from Irfan Ghatala’s yard provided leading pro Pradeep Chouhan an arm-chair ride to success in the llower division of the Angel Dust Plate and in the concluding event, the lower division of the Winners’ Circle Trophy the 15 to one shot Albertino who was ignored in the betting ring despite the fact that he had run the speedy Castle Key close in his last essay simply because Selvaraj was guiding the fortunes of Irfan produced a winning gallop to scamper home in a tight finish to the delight of Irfan and Selvaraj.

After Albertino streaked ahead at the distance post, the favourite Good Fortune and the lesser fancied Taqdeer Ka Badshah challenged the leader but neither could stop the long shot from flashing past the post first. Taqdeer Ka Badshah finished second ahead of Good Fortune while Ayrton charged home late to take the fourth spot.

Prasanna opened his account through the well supported Croziet in the opening event, the lower division of the Udhagamandalam Stakes. The winner backed to the exclusion of his 11 rivals justified the confidence of his connections  romping home in the hands of champion jockey S John. Sudha finished second while the Faraz Arshad schooled New Era was never in the hunt.

The Prasanna camp was lucky to strike on the debutant Fire Glow in the upper division of the Angel Dust Trophy run over a sprint. The favourite strongly fancied to score lacked the speed to gain a favourable position early in the race and that helped the consistent Romantic Helen who was knocking at the door establish a winning lead at the distance post before Imran Khan packed punch on the public choice and the never-say-die bid of Imran gained the day to the delight of the punters, Fire Glow sparing a `nose’ to Helen at the post. The winner is a goodtype of youngster and it will pay to exploit him over mile and above trips. Romantic Helen in defeat was not disgraced and lives to fight another day. The Darius Byramji schooled Reference who had finished second behind the double classic winner Serjeant at Arms in his  earlier start in winter raced in patches and eventually finished a poor fourth.  One bad day in the office it was for Reference and this Darius ward deserves another chance and it will pay to follow when next saddled in Mysore.

Champion trainer Arjun Manglorkar maintained his winning streak, leading in last start winner Pallas in the Mamma’s Mink Stakes run over a distance of nine furlongs. The joint favourite who looked a picture of fitness at the parade ring proved too good for his seven rivals, putting the issue beyond doubt the moment the runners negotiated the final curve. Pallas is in rousing form and is set to complete a hat-trick of wins if his owners chose to race him in the Mysore season.

Trainer Ganapathy  who had a bad summer, only three winners to his credit added one, the well supported Light Of Magic edging out the second in demand at the betting ring Sir Majestic close home. The favourite Topspot in his effort to make every post a winning one surrendered the advantage to the runner-up in the final furlong and just when it looked Suraj astride Sir Majestic will prevail, Jagadeesh astride Light Of Magic in determined fashion drove the Ganapathy ward to gain the day in a close encounter.
