Mr Zeyn Mirza & trainer S S Attaollahi leading Sea Fairey (Suraj Narredu Up), winner of The Independence Trophy

After two failures the Sulaiman Attaollahi-trained Sea Fairey chalked out her first win this season winning the Independence Trophy in the hands of leading pro Suraj Narredu who packed punch to peg back the belated effort of lesser fancied Super Force on the concluding day of the summer races.

In line for a hat-trick, champion trainer Arjun Manglorkar’s ward Coldstream opened the favourite in this event and that’s largely due to the fact that Sea Fairey had disappointed twice but the winner garnered good support at end to start the favourite and she justified the confidence of her connections in style.

The speedy Mickey Mouse hit the front and set a fast pace in company of  Royal Salute, another contestant who loves to race in front. Suraj had the favourite travelling nice and easy in the fourth berth behind Coldstream while Super Force was seen gracing the wrong end of the field.

Coldstream streaked ahead when the race came on a boil  before Suraj packed punch on the Sulaiman ward and she responded gamely to score from Super Force, a `neck’ separating the two at the wire.

Dominic-trained Justice Angel was backed to the exclusion of her nine rivals in the Beautiful Babe Stakes. But the on-money favourite again failed in her exercise to deliver the goods, failing to beat the start to finish attempt of the second choice Antananarivo piloted by champion pro S John who won the champion jockey title with 33 winners to his credit.

The Sriram Komandur schooled Life Awaits had recorded an impressive win in his last essay and a repeat win was on cards. But the punters chose to go with Super Success and Downton Abbey in this event and the winner was freely available at (5/1) and he recorded an encore in the hands of Pradeep Chouhan to the delight of his trainer. Downton Abbey finished second ahead of  Super Success while Rakshitha came home fourth.

The opening event was claimed by the strongly fancied Revelnation from Gregory Sandhu’s yard.  The winner held the advantage all the way in the final furlong followed by the lesser fancied She Loves while the rest appeared to be out of it.  Jockey Lalit astride She Loves It, in his bid to challenge the leader close home was unseated and this happened half-metre from the winning post. Revelnation won the race. She Loves It lost the second place due to the mishap. There was an objection by trainer Lokanath against the result but the Stewards, after deliberations, stuck to  positons  declared by the Judge.

Arjun Mangalorkar trained Talladega won the 1400 metres Dupont Trophy in style.  After chasing Tax Free into the straight, Talladega quickened and established a winning lead before the favourite Cape Cross warmed up to the task. The favourite could do no better than finish second for the third successive time. War Envoy was third while Super Smart took the fourth spot.

In line for a hat-trick Irish Prince garnered the maximum support  in the upper division of the Parsiana Stakes but the public choice bolted without the saddle while being loaded and was withdrawn. The Rashid Byramji schooled Noble Sapphire who too was quietly fancied won with a measure of comfort despite jockey Jagadeesh going wide while turning for home. Able Master who raised hopes of causing an upset took the runner-up spot ahead of Firing Line who was fancied strongly in place.

The withdrawal of Shivalik Girl on veterinary grounds meant that Raw Gold was left with no worthwhile opposition in the lower division of the event. And the favourite raised no sweat romping home in the hands of T S Jodha.

Sirajuddin trained Kings Kid who was one of the fancied runners to win the Belmont Park Stakes run over a mile put the issue beyond doubt in  the final furlong.  Tick Tac Toe who looked to have gained control started to tire in the last 100 metres and that helped Thalassa gain the runner-up berth.

The concluding race of the season, the Good-Bye Stakes was won by Prithviraj-trained Ramon. Jockey Arshad Alam astride Neymar hit the front from the wide outside draw and went like he was competing in a 800M event and that cost the connections of Neymar dear.  Ramon piloted by Ramu produced a winning gallop to gain command and score from Candice.
