DANCING PHOENIX WINS THE GOVERNOR’S CUP

Dancing Phoenix (Phoenix Tower-All Dancing / Manjri Stud) trained by Dallas Toddywalla, a runner-up in the Sprinter’s Cup at Chennai won the Governor’s Cup at Hyderabad. Jockey S.Zrevan settled Dancing Phoenix in second while another fancied Western India challenger Solomon hit the front to cut the wind. They were followed by Vijay Vidhata, New Prince, Smilestone, Castle Key and Gaarswood tailed off last. Entering the straight Dancing Phoenix stormed ahead to go to the lead approaching the last 300 metres and won impressively. Smilestone warmed up late to finish second ahead of Solomon. Vijay Vidhata filled the judge’s frame.

Trainer Donald Netto and jockey Deepak Singh combined to wrap up both the divisions of the Astronomic Cup. Big Flash (Ravel-So Will I), a consistent performer raised a scintillating gallop in the last furlong to win the higher division. There was a rush for the lead as the gates opened and not finding room from the extreme outside draw Big Flash settled in about seventh while Born To Do It headed the pack followed by Ruby’s Gift. The two in front were still in front as they passed the distance post and Big Flash ridden hard came with telling strides to weave through the field and shoot ahead. Royal Dynamite charged in to take the second place from Born To Do It and Ruby’s Gift.

Rahul’s Pet (Green Coast-Singing Speed) registered a very fine victory in the lower division. The 3 years old grey filly was held back in third when Palisades Park and Garib Parwar called the shots. On entering the straight Rahul’s Pet, a 10-9 on-money favourite cruised up alongside and went clear to score an encore. Kohinoor Karishma, Bharat King and Khan Sahib filled the frame in that order.

L.V.R.Deshmukh trained Mandy (Verenar-Si Gentille) justified the favouritism in the division I of the Deccan Queen Plate. Mandy raced in about seventh position early on while Deve Colours showed plenty of speed to head to the front. Improving gradually Mandy came to challenge Seven Colours on the straight and with a fluent gallop stormed clear by 2 ¼ lengths. Composure finished third in front of General Salute.

Charming Beauty (Bushranger-Dealt) from the stables of K.Satheesh that was winless from a dozen starts won the Happy Valley Plate impressively. Racing a handy third till entering the straight Charming Beauty raised a fluent gallop to take charge and storm ahead. Agusta Bombshell missed many lengths at the start and covered good ground to finally end up second. Karromshade finished third ahead of Coruba.  

Trainer Anupam Sharma sent out three winners all maiden victories. Amazing Venus, Act In Time and Bharat Queen were the victors from the stable. The first and the last named were ridden by P.Ajeeth Kumar. Amazing Venus (Green Coast-Look At Venus) went on a start to finish bid in the division II of the Sangareddy Plate and won easily. Good Image rallied on to take the second spot while In Command after toiling hard in second till the last 300 metres fell back to finish third. Pride And Joy was withdrawn before the race.

Act In Time (West Virginia-Akiydath) sent off as the favourite at 5-4 in the division 3 of the Subramanya Bharati Plate scored a comfortable win. Rushing to the lead from an inward draw Act In Time went on a start to finish bid and won unchallenged. Nelly chased the winner to finish second. Captain General and Sefarina finished third and fourth respectively. Gun Stream was withdrawn before the race.

Bharat Quen (Sedgefield-Red Fairy) that had found one better in its last two starts was taken on a start to finish bid by P.Ajeeth Kumar over the 1200 metres distance in the lower division of the Deccan Queen Plate. Bharat Queen galloped freely on the straight to win by a comfortable margin while Patron Saint rallied in to take the second place. Negress Pearl and Batur finished third and fourth respectively.

K.S.V.Prasad Raju trained Avenida (Hymn-Sunwing) won the division I of the Sangareddy Plate. Into the home stretch Chinese Thought and Golden Joy came in first. Avenida started to improve from the outside and it was a battle between Golden Joy and Avenida inside the last 200 metres. Avenida travelled the better and prevailed by three parts of a length at the finish. Chinese Thought stayed on in third and Miramar finished fourth.
