By Madhukar Bhagawan | 28 Aug 2016 | HYDERABAD

L.V.R.Deshmukh trained Vijays Wonder (Stern Opiniion-Charlwood) scored her first win in the Police Trophy, the main event of the small card of six races on Sunday at Hyderabad. Chinese Thought took advantage of the innermost draw and set off in the lead right from the start. Golden Joy raced second early followed by Magical Skill. The grey Vijays Wonder was in about fourth or fifth. On straightening for home Vijays Wonder was alighted to the task from the outside but Chinese Thought continued to hold on to the lead. Vijays Wonder started to inch closer inside the last furlong and managed to collar Chinese Thought within the last 50 metres. The on-money favourite Cash Landing could manage only a third.

Trainer R.H.Sequeira cleared half the day’s card through Onk Onk Onk, Altruist and Ans Ans Ans. All the three were ridden by P.Sai Kumar. Onk Onk Onk (Tariq-Musical Pepper) just managed to edge out Vijays Delight in the Elusive Hero Cup. Golden Angel went on a start to finish bid over the 1200 metres sprint. Onk Onk Onk covered ground from the extreme outside and Vijays Delight also creeped up close to the rails simultaneously. The two matched strides in the last 100 metres and went past the winning post in a close finish. The verdict went in favour of Onk Onk Onk who had edged out the ‘Delight’ by a head. Golden Angel after doing all the front running finished third.

Altruist (Gaswar-Speed Mistress) whose last win was exactly a year ago found enough legs to win the lower division of the Democracy Plate. Catherine set off on a start to finish bid and brought the field into view on the straight. Altruist improved gradually and was on the haunches of the leader approaching the last 300 metres. Travelling better from the outside Altruist went clear to register a fine win. Vijays Grandeour came from way behind to finish second ahead of Midnight In Paris. Catherine finished fourth.

Ans Ans Ans (Win Legend-Clairet) won for the second time from its three starts in the Khammam Plate. Ans Ans Ans settled in about seventh after jumping out from the outermost draw while Cashel and Platinum called the shots almost together in front. With a furlong left George Cross and Ans Ans Ans both started to move up from the wide outside and swooped on the front runners. Ans Ans Ans travelled the better and prevailed over George Cross by a length and a quarter. Vijay’s Dynamite and Golden Adara finished third and fourth respectively.

The day started off with Ananta Vatsalya trained Upon A Star (Hymn-Wishing On A Star) scoring an upset in the Donegal Plate. Buckshee went to the front over the 2000 metres trip and took a long lead. Upon A Star confidently settled in second followed by the rest of them. On entering the straight The lead of Buckshee was quickly cut down by Upon A Star and the 5 year old gelding went ahead before approaching the distance marker. There was intence tussle for the minor placings with Undu Undu Undu beating Buckshee in the last few strides.

Laxman Singh trained Vijay Sakhi (Tagula-Markova) justified the strong favouritism in the higher division of the Democracy Plate. Dandy Girl showed plenty of early speed  rushed to the lead followed by Modern Sniper. Vijay Sakhi was not far behind close to the rails. With about 300 metres left from home Vijay Sakhi gathered momentum under the strong riding of Y.S.Srinath and charged between the front runners to gain the advantage. Always Together, Red Express and Dandy Girl filled the judge’s frame in that order.
