BAASHAGAR POST AN EASY VICTORY

Anupam Sharma trained Baashagar (Kingda Ka-Le Reve)ade it to the winning post easily in the P.G.Reddy Memorial Cup, a seven furlongs trip for horses in Category II that featured Sunday’s card at Hyderabad. Baashagar and Found Money were both sent off as the joint favourites for the race. Found Money set off on a start to finish bid. Baashagar after racing in fourth initially made progress gradually to be on the haonches of the leader as they approached the final bend. On entering the straight Baashagar ranged up from the outside and surged ahead without any fuss. Found Money held on to the second place from Legend and The Blue.

Dahlois (Dancing Forever-Maid Of Artois) from trainer M.Srinivas Reddy’s stables earned its second straight win in the Raja Saheb Of Itkyal Memorial Cup. Set to cover 2000 metres Dahlois went to the front early and led for the first furlong. The favourite Kiss N Chase then took over the charge followed by Nautanki. Kiss N Chase was out of steam before approaching the last 600 metres and Dahlois surged ahead easily even as Nautanki went wide. On the straight Dahlois kicked on gamely keeping Royal Hero at bay. Silvassa finished third ahead of Steyn Memories.

Jockey Y.S.Srinath had a profitable day riding a back to back double. He first was astride Sk Waseem Ahmed trained Good Image (Whatsthescript-Guest Of Honour) in the Ballo Plate. The 3 year old filly winless from eleven starts was the piping hot favourite at 100-55 ‘on’. Cashel set off in front followed by Our Ensign and Sol Invictus. Good Image raced in fourth followed by the rest. Good Image moved to be second approaching the last 200 metres but was still about two lengths adrift of Cashel. Srinath worked hard to get Good Image get to the rhythm and once the filly found the momentum the race was over for the filly. Sol Invictus finished third and Our Ensign fourth.

Srinath took Sk Kassam’s Matica (Mull Of Kintyre-Ramatni) on a start to finish mission and survived Golden Phoenix’s onslaught by the proverbial whisker. Matica took a good jump from the outermost draw and rushed to get to the lead. Inside the last 150 metres Golden Phoenix came up with a strong challenge but was tending to lean in badly. Srinath rode Matica from the inside with renewed effort and managed to scrape through by the shortest margin. Ryuzaki was finishing on being third. Fairy Storm ended up fourth.

The speedy Royal Rajkumari (Ravel-Speed Mistress) from N.Ravinder Singh’s stables scored an encore in the lower division. The filly was the slowest out of the gates among the ten runners and travelled with the backbenchers till turning for home. Yes Baby led till the top of the straight and the favourite Tricky Star tackled the leader with 300 metres left and surged ahead from the inside. Royal Rajkumari was gaining places from the wide outside and the filly quickened inside the last 150 metres to flash past Tricky Star by three parts of a length. In Command and Dorian finished third and fourth respectively.

K.S.V.Prasad Raju trained Dream Girl (Roi Maudit-Casual Look) had a profitable debut in the Fire Haven Plate. Dream Girl was the smartest out of the gates and rushed ahead to lead the field. The favourite Patron Saint was in chase followed by the rest. Dream Girl continued to gallop freely on the straight and kicked on gamely. Patron Saint followed in second. Princess Of Dreams and Seven Colours filled the frame in that order.

Kohinoor Valour originally won the division II of the Red Rufus Plate but was eventually disqualified following dangerous riding. Zensational (Noverre-E Sharp) who went on a start to finish bid was in the lead as they showed up on the straight followed by Jem Star, Kohinoor Valour and the rest. Kohinoor Valour went wide and lost position on top of the straight but began to regain the lost ground from the outside. Kohinoor Valour started to gallop dangerously, veering in violently causing disturbance to Full Of Life and Vijay’s Empire. Jockey S.Sreekant continued to use the whip from the left and Kohinoor Valour once again caused severe interference to the horses on the inside. The stewards held an enquiry into the running of Kohinoor Valour and decided to disqualify the gelding. Zensational that had finished second was declared as the winner. Jem Star, Seeking Alpha and Full Of Life filled the frame in that order in the revised order.

In the opening race of the day, the Anantagiri Plate Laxman Singh trained Aragonda Princess (Whatsthescript-Reforest) trounced the field to justify the favouritism. Green Striker led the pack early followed closely by Aragonda Princess. As they turned for home Aragonda Princess forged ahead and stretched out effortlessly. Silver Dollar finished second ahead of Bharat Queen.
