S.Dominic trained Starlet (Eljohar-Cape Africa / Mukteshear Stud) after a stirring duel with Bold Command right through the last furlong held off gallantly by three parts of a length in the H.H. Sri Krishnaraja Wadiyar Memorial Trophy (Gr.3) a terms race for horses 4 years and over. Starlet settled well close to the rails in about third with Acclaimed in company from the outside while Daylite and Shivalik Star raced in front. The favourite Bold Command raced in fifth all the way. As they came into the final straight Bold Command made a swift move from the outside to grab the lead and jockey T.S.Jodha brought Starlet from the shortest way to join the favourite. The two fought out the last 200 metres and Starlet who was travelling the better inside the last 100 metres shrugged off Bold Command. Sofast charged in from the outside to get the third place ahead of Acclaimed.

The favourite New Crown who was coming into the Safi Darashah Memorial Trophy with a hat-trick to its credit must have got a fright of its life when longshot Grand Success charged in to get to the winning post first. New Crown went as per plan into the lead as the gates opened and the local challenger Grand Success taking off from the extreme outside draw improved well to be in chase. Into the last furlong New Crown continued to be well in the lead and was looking good even as they passed the 100 metres pole when the 8 year old Grand Success (Catienus-Maria T / Poona Stud) found speed all of a sudden to flash past. Grand Success payed a whopping Rs.1577 for a tenner for win at the tote. Emperor Cruise and Light Of Magic finished third and fourth in a close finish.

Sea Lagoon (Phoenix Tower-North Sea / Manjri Stud) that had signed off the summer season with a win scored an encore in the R.R.Komandur Memorial Trophy Div.I. Trained by S.Rakesh Sea Lagoon was sent off at 9-2 for the sprint event. Settling nicely in second behind Majestic Queen, Sea Lagoon was rushed to the front by S.John as they turned for home. The favourite Madame Bovary was ridden hard on the straight but Sea Lagoon had stolen a march and wrapped it up easily. Hidden Soldier came in from behind to take the third spot ahead of Calico Jack.

Mahmood Khan trained Top Striker (Sussex-Sugar Zone / Pratap Stud) won the lower division beating the hot favourite Shining Magic. Shining Magic after a sluggish beginning improved quickly to get to third behind Saigar and Top Striker. As they turned for home Top Striker set off along the inside and Shining Magic made its bid from the outside. Jockey John gave the Shining Magic a couple of cracks from the right and the horse started to drift out of the straight course almost getting to the edge of the turf. John managed to change his whip to the left rather late and the race was well in the safe keeping of Top Striker. The Stewards have opened an enquiry into the running and riding of Shining Magic. All That’s Nice and Saigar finished third and fourth respectively.

Jockey Y.S.Srinath used all his reserves to ride out Ranjeet Shinde’s Oro Plata (Sussex-Orientation / Badal Stud) to victory in the opener of the day, the Jan E Jan Plate. Oro Plata got a flying start but soon fell back to fourth when Ophira forged ahead to lead followed by Friends Forever and Aglaia. Passing the 300 metres board Friends Forever surged ahead to take over the running and was looking good by almost three lengths ahead of Oro Plata. Srinath started to use the whip freely on Oro Plata and got the 5 year old to get upto the leader and pass her inside the last 20 metres. Time To Time finished third and Ophira came in fourth.

S.Inayathulla trained Elegant Star (Lucifer Sam-Celesta / Sans Craintes Stud) that was winless from 14 starts sprang a surprise in the Lt.Col.D.K.Mistry Memorial Plate. Elegant Star settled in third while Extremely Dangerous led the field followed closely by Perfect Prince. As they turned for home the duo in front drifted out and there was a wide opening along the rails. Elegant Star and Ocean Park both made a quick move at the same juncture to take the opening and fought out the last 200 metres. T.S.Jodha on Elegant Star and Suraj Narredu on Ocean Park went all out on their mounts and the former held out by a short neck at the finish. Active Grey and Kings Kid ended up third and fourth respectively.

G.Srinivas Babu trained Tachyon (Ontario-Artic Whisper / Sohna Stud) sprang a surprise in the Star Wave Plate, the concluding race of the day. Ephialties after leading from the start showed up first on the straight. Drops Of Jupiter came flying from the rear and sped past with 250 metres left from the finish. Tachyon racing in about fifth or sixth gained momentum inside the final furlong and came charging down to get the better of Drops Of Jupiter in the shadow of the winning post. The favourite Haloween’s Way was a tame third ahead of Al Dorado.
