Trainer ARAVIND GANAPATHY (Deputising trainer S Ganapathy) leading Dazzling Bay (P S Chouhan Up), winner of The M.W.Chinnappa Memorial Trophy

S.Ganapathy trained Dazzling Bay (Arazan-Attractress / Exhiliration Stud) powered her way to a decisive win in the M.W.Chinnappa Memorial Trophy, a 1400 metres race for horses rated 60 and above that was the main event of Thursday’s races at Mysore. The filly was finding it difficult to find form during summer. Jockey P.S.Chouhan took Dazzling Bay straight to the lead after taking a good jump from draw one. As they came into the last 400 metres Dazzling Bay was still in the lead and Flamboyance joined from the outside and the two broke away from the rest. Chouhan continued to ride out Dazzling Bay and the filly despite shifting out to the centre of the turf managed to keep at bay Flamboyance by a neck. Bonfire that travelled last till approaching the final turn rallied on to finish third.

Sriram Komandur schooled War Envoy (Multidimensional-Blue Ridge / Usha Stud) scored a comfortable win in the H.H.Sri Chamaraja Wadiyar Memorial Cup, a seven furlongs race for maiden 3 years old. Tax Free cut the wind early and War Envoy settled well about two lengths away in second. As they straightened up for home jockey Srinath shifted gears on War Envoy and the son of Multidimensional went past the leader easily and drew clear. Towering Heights who was a bit lethargic at the start was in chase inside the last furlong but could only finish second. Tax Free after doing all the running till the straight ended up third. Harley Quinn finished fourth.

Jockey Irvan Singh who was getting back on the saddle after nearly five months following a fall in Sri Lanka rode Darius Byramji trained Inquisition (Young Senor-Ladyfeelgood / Chhatari Stud) to an upset win in the division I of the J.H.Foley Memorial Trophy. Approaching the last 200 metres Ravello that was on a start to finish bid was being challenged by Moroccan and the favourite Fair Game. Inquisition racing in about sixth entering the straight improved from the inside and weaving through the field came flying inside the last 50 metres to get the better of Ravello by a neck. Fair Game was only third and Sun Glow filled the frame.

G.Sandhu’s Fourth Dimension (Moss Value-Delicia / Mebajeona Stud) pulled off a big upset in the lower division. Fourth Dimension took a good jump and rushed to hit the front. On top of the straight Fourth Dimension still enjoyed two lengths lead over the nearest rival and kicked on gamely till the winning post. Blues Legend travelling with the rear bunch till the top of the straight started to improve places from the wide outside and with a late burst of speed came in late to finish second. Attractive Bay and the favourite Colour Of Gold finished third and fourth respectively.

Trainer Vikram Appachu and jockey Kiran Rai combined to pick up both the divisions of the Eclipse Plate through Kazuri and Amazing Connection. Kazuri (Glory Of Dancer-Dynasty / Sohna Stud) who had not done anything worthwhile from the time it shifted base from Western India a year ago was backed with conviction to be the ‘Even’ money favourite in the lower division. Entering the home stretch Catharsis surged ahead to take it up from Al Dhama. Kazuri started to make its move from behind and galloped from the outside. The 5 year old went past Catharsis inside the last 200 metres and stretched out well to justify the favouritism. Nuala finished on being third with Alps taking the fourth spot.

Amazing Connection (Alnasr Alwasheek-Arabian Lady / Yeravada Stud) received one side betting to land as the favourite in the higher division. The 4 year old filly went on a start to finish mission and won drawing away on the straight. Grand Celebration came from way behind to take the second place while Run To Win and Pretty Hot finished third and fourth respectively.

Pratap Kamath trained Pepper King (Hurricane Centre-Daily Dance / Singh Stud) whose last win was two years ago won the opener of the day, the Panchagani Plate. As Always set out in front followed about two lengths behind by Pepper King. Aretes raced third ahead of Erebus and the rest followed. On entering the straight As Always held on to the lead till into the last 100 metres and Pepper King with a sustained gallop managed to forge ahead and wrap it up by a length. Infinithoughts came in with a late burst of speed to finish second in front of As Always. Aretes finished fourth.
