Darius Byramji trained La Dona (Multidimensional-Forest Treasure / Usha Stud) won the first classic of the Mysore season, the Karnataka Race Horse Owners’ Association Mysore 1000 Guineas. La Dona, winner of a ‘Million’ four weeks ago was the on-money favourite among the four fillies that lined up for the customary mile trip. They were off to a level break at the gates and La Dona went to the front as they settled down. Ice Glacier was in chase followed by Fabulous Touch and Siobhan. Entering the straight La Dona was still a little over a length ahead of Ice Glacier. The other two had fallen back. Inside the last furlong Ice Glacier started to challenge from the outside and jockey Sandesh on La Dona also went for the stick. The gap between the two began to diminish and La Dona prevailed by a neck at the finish. Siobhan was faraway third.

Arjun Mangalorkar schooled Storm (Admiralofthefleet-Stormy Affair / Kunigal Stud) who was only in its second start won the Civil Services Trophy in a smart timing. Storm started off as the favourite at 13-10 but the odds drifted out to 2-1 with Queenofgoodtimes and Dagobert receiving strong support. Storm jumped out smartly from an outward draw and showed plenty of early speed to rush to the front. Queenofgoodtimes tracked the leader till showing up on the straight. Inside the last 300 metres Storm still enjoyed a good lead and Dagobert was the only worthy challenger who was covering ground. Jockey S.John kept riding out Storm and the bay colt kicked on to spare a length and a quarter to Dagobert. Royal Defence was in chase till the last 100 metres but lost out the second place to Real Steel who warmed up late from the rear. Royal Rein finished fourth.

Mystic Music (Ivory Touch-Vedic Chants / Jind Stud) that had moved to trainer Arjun Mangalorkar’s stables after the retirement of B.Putanna won the lower division. Racing in about fifth till the final bend Mystic Music took the shortest way to quickly improve position and get to contention. Golden Diamond was in hot chase and Yellowzone started to cover ground from the wide outside. The three fought out inside the last furlong and Mystic Music under strong handling by S.John prevailed by three parts of a length from Yellowzone. Golden Diamond was third another three parts of a length away. Color Me filled the frame.

The 3 years old gelding rushed to the lead quickly after the start and set out on a start to finish bid. Inside the last 300 metres Brown Beauty began to close up from the outside and Perfectebony was hard at work. Jockey A.Imran Khan went for the stick and rode out Papadokia to hold on by a neck at the finish. Perfectebony and Industrialist finished a close third and fourth respectively.

Colossal Moments was off to a sluggish start and raced in about eighth position as they approached the final turn. Inside the last 200 metres Blazing Faith was still in front with Cool Springs closing up. Colossal Moments was set alight from the wide outside and the filly began to devour ground. Colossal Moments got to the front runners in front of the grand stand and staved off Cool Springs by a neck. Blazing Faith stayed on in third and Benedetta finished fourth.

Jockey Prasanth P Dhebe started off the day with a start to finish win on S.Santosh Rao’s Golden Steps (Don Micheletto-Miraflores / Nakul Stud) in the Jaganmohana Palace Plate. The 6 year old mare took a good jump as the gates opened and got to the front easily.
