The handsome Serjeant At Arms (Ikhtyar-Rahy’s Serenade) bred at the Nanoli Stud and trained by Suleiman S Attaollahi cruised home to a sweat less victory in the Jayachamaraja Wadiyar Golf Club Mysore 2000 Guineas (Gr.3), the second classic of the season. The manner in which the bay colt thrashed the opposition speaks volumes about the multi classic winner who remains unbeaten from five starts. He is sure to be the hot favourite in the Derby to be run here on the fourth Sunday of October.

Namid set off in front followed by Attorney General, Sporting Pleasure, Bold March, Serjeant At Arms and Lorenzo. Rounding the final turn Serjeant At Arms was guided to make a run from around the field. On top of the straight even as the rest of them started to get a feel of the stick Serjeant At Arms travelled smoothly from the outside with jockey A.Sandesh not having to move a nerve and left the field cold on tight reins. For the record Bold March took the runner-up berth with Namid and Attorney General filling the frame in that order.

S.Rakesh trained Sea Lagoon (Phoenix Tower-North Sea / Manjri Stud) scored her fourth straight win in the Dr.M.A M.Ramaswamy Memorial Trophy, a seven furlongs race for horses rated 60 and above aptly framed on the birthday of Late Dr.MAM. The race favourite Silver Chieftan went on a start to finish bid but started to distress signals turning for home. Sea Lagoon racing close behind rushed to take up the running and came in first on the straight. Kingston Town began to challenge from the outside but jockey S.John kept Sea Lagoon going despite drifting out of the straight course. Wind Wonder was also gaining ground close to the rails. Sea Lagoon stubbornly held on by a length at the finish and Wind Wonder got the better of Kingston Town by the shortest margin. Secret Dimension finished third.

Jockey S.John who is on a roll completed a hat-trick on the day. Festive Cheer and Areca Wonder were his other two winners. Arjun Mangalorkar trained Festive Cheer (Multidimensional-Tarnished Lady / Usha Stud) won the Justice P.Medappa Memorial Trophy in a facile manner. The favourite Into The Spotlight set off early in the lead. Festive Cheer raced second with Momotaro in third another three lengths away. Pikachu and Chandini were further behind. The five of them closed up as the approached the final turn and finding Into The Spotlight pack up on top of the straight John rushed ahead with Festive Cheer. The filly kicked on easily and Pikachu rallied on from the outside to beat Momotaro for the second place. Into The Spotlight finished a tame fourth.

Prasanna Kumar trained Areca Wonder (Lord Admiral-African Sky / Kunigal Stud) was impressive in the higher division of the Margrove Estate Trophy. Areca Wonder raced in about sixth while Spinning Chakram led the field followed by Tronada, One Big Gang, Kazuri and Attractive Bay. Inside the last 400 metres Tronada and Kazuri went to the front. Areca Wonder improved between horses and with a sizzling gallop shot to the lead and stretched out effortlessly. Kazuri finished second ahead of Don’t Trust Anyone and Tronada.

El Fenix (Phoenix Tower-Romantic Heights / Manjri Stud) from trainer Darius Byramji’s stables did well to pull it off in the lower division despite a slow start. El Fenix was the last to jump out of the gates and trailed the field till the last 500 metres. Turning for home El Fenix was pulled to the extreme outside by V.R.Jagadeesh. The bottom weighted Majestic Style surged ahead on the straight and opened up a lead over the others. El Fenix began to devour ground from the wide outside and despite hanging in inside the last furlong fought out with Majestic Style and prevailed by half a length. Cherie Amour finished and Afore fourth. Afore took an objection against the rider of Majestic Style for interference on the straight and it was overruled by the Stewards.

Kishan Thomas trained Amazing Redd (Burden Of Proof-Canadian / Kunigal Stud) whose last win was in January 2014 was handled well by young Prashant P Dhebe to pull it off in the division I of the Triveni Plate.  The seven years old who received strong support to be the favourite among the dozen contenders got a good start from the innermost draw and led the pack from the beginning. Passing the distance marker Amazing Redd was still in front but the lead started to diminish with Trust Me Boy coming from the rear with a fast run. Croziet was also closing up. Dhebe and Amazing Redd managed to hold on by a neck at the wire from Trust Me Boy. Croziet finished third half a length behind. Stellar Ambition came in fourth.

B.Prithviraj trained Indian Legend (Ivory Touch-Track Rule / Mare Haven Stud) scored an easy win in the lower division. Turning for home in the seven furlongs race Masteroftherolls shot to the lead and Indian Legend was on its haunches. Jockey Arshad Alam rode out Indian Legend and the gelding forged ahead inside the last 250 metres and stretched out well. Kir Royale and Samay Balwan came in late and took the second and third places respectively in a close finish. Masteroftherolls filled the frame.

Kallistrate set off on a start to finish bid but was out of steam passing the 300 metres board. Napolean Dynamite who was placed handily in about fourth or fifth till the final bend was pushed by Nitin Singh to improve position and the 7 year old responded well to move forward and take up the running with a furlong left. Coffee Time was up with a challenge but could only finish second. Time To Time and Green Emerald ended up third and fourth respectively.

The well backed Castlebar (Holding Court-Whisper City / Broadacres Stud) from the stables of Bipin V Salvi won the last race of the day, the Hogenakal Plate. Speed Queen came in first on the straight but was soon overtaken by Castlebar nearing the 300 metres board. Castlebar pulled away from the rest and won it despite running a bit erratic. Happy Victory warmed up late to take the second spot. Speed Queen and Ice Splendour finished third and fourth respectively.
