DANCING PHOENIX SETS THE TRACK ABLAZE

Dallas Todywalla trained Dancing Phoenix (Phoenix Tower-All Dancing / Manjri Stud) set the track ablaze at Mysore. The son of Phoenix Tower won the Mysore Dasara Sprint Championship (Gr.3), a terms race for horses three years old and over in a new record timing of 1:08.94 secs over the 1200 metres distance.

Dancing Phoenix shot to the front as the gates opened and set a scorching pace. As they entered the straight Dancing Phoenix was still in command with Royal Salute and Shivalik Star being the nearest challengers. Starlet who could not keep up with the fast pace early, raced towards the rear and began to improve position from around the field as they rounded the final turn. The filly came charging towards Dancing Phoenix and the lead was diminishing quickly but Suraj Narredu had the Western India raider safely home by a neck. Shivalik Star and Royal Salute finished third and fourth respectively.

Warren Singh trained Speed Hawk (Mathematician-Spark Of Elegance / AA Stud) whose last win was on this track exactly a year ago found form to emerge victorious in the Nargis Darashah Memorial Trophy.  Kaguya Himei set out in front followed by Speed Hawk, Secret Dimension, Castle King, Color Proof and Reanna. On top of the straight Speed Hawk that was ridden by P.S.Chouhan in place of an indisposed Srinath surged ahead to take over the running from a weakening Kaguya Himei. Secret Dimension and Reanna began to raise a gallop from the outside but Speed Hawk quickened well to pull it off. Secret Dimension, Reanna and Castle King filled the frame in that order.

Mysore based Ontime (Ace-Timely One / Poonawalla Stud) from trainer T.Natraj’s stables caused a flutter while winning the B.A.Nanaiah Memorial Cup. Ontime, a winner of a six furlongs race during the first week of the season was neglected in the betting with the presence of Bangalore horses for the mile trip. Ontime set off in front from the beginning and came in with a lead of over two lengths on the straight. Ontime shifted out slightly when asked to quicken on the straight by V.R.Jagadeesh but still did well to kick on till the finish. Mystic Music was in chase all through the straight but was unable to bear the penalty for its last win and ended up second. Yellozone finished third and Ruthba filled the frame.

 Prazsky (Elusive City-Quiet Lane / Nanoli Stud) trained by S.Inayathulla sprang a surprise in the division I of the Mrs.Ammani Ramachandran Memorial Trophy. Shideh that went into the sprint as the favourite went on a start to finish bid. Nearing the last 100 metres Shideh was still ahead but was being threatened by Temujin. Prazsky started to get stronger under V.R.Jagadeesh and with a burst of speed sped past the duo in front of the grand stand. Temujin emerged ahead of Shideh to be second. Protector Of Paris filled up the frame.

With the benefit of a run this season, G.Nithyanand trained Happy Hours (Princely Heir-Anorada / Dr.Kehar Singh Stud) was installed as the favourite for the lower division. The 5 years old took a good jump and headed to the front to lead. Entering the straight Happy Hours enjoyed a lead of a little over two lengths. Luc Divine began to raise a gallop inside the last 200 metres and began to close the gap but Happy Hours driven out by Arshad Alam held on by a neck at the finish. Flying Bullet finished third another length and a quarter away.

Legal Legacy (Oath-Amberley / Pratap Stud) turned out to a cut above the class in the higher division of the Sunderbans Plate. The Sharat Kumar trainee was out in front at the start and maintained a good lead over the rest. Inside the last 400 metres Legal Legacy was still in total control and jockey S.John had the 5 years old on tight reins even as the fancied Santorini Secret was in a futile chase. Friends Forever and Order Order finished third and fourth respectively.

F.Sirajuddin’s Thundersquall (Arazan-Difficult Doll / Nanoli Stud) scored a maiden win in the lower division. The 4 years old gelding produced that burst of speed when it mattered most to nail the favourite Amaze on the post. Amaze went on a start to finish bid and came in clear on the straight by over four lengths. Thundersquall ridden out by Shobhan Babu began to close up the gap and with a final burst collared Amaze close home.

The 4 years old Chackaloochoo (Win Legend-Money With Talent / Ponderosa Stud) with only one run to her credit wherein she finished nowhere sprang a surprise in the opener, the Yadavagiri Plate. Going ahead to lead the field from the start Chackaloochoo came in first on the straight. The filly drifted out near the 300 metres but continued to stay in front and extended the lead to over seven lengths from the favourite Country’s Warrior who had to settle for the second place. La Piperi and Sazae San finished third and fourth respectively.

Trainer S.M.Johnson’s ward Matteo (Tariq-Stunning Wonder / Equus Stud) pulled it off in the Hasthinapura Plate despite the odds drifting out from an opening quote of 10-9 ‘on’ to 18-10. Tobin went to the front from the start and was looking good on the straight. Matteo racing in about fourth saved ground close to the rails and was up with a challenge inside the last 200 metres. Surging ahead Matteo got the better by a length from Tobin. Sky Jasmine finished third another four lengths away. Bryant Park ended up fourth.
