RIO ROJO WINS THE S.RANGARAJAN MEMORIAL CUP

K.S.V.Prasad aju trained Rio Rojo (Tejano-Auberge / Kunigal Stud) who is in sublime form this season won its fifth successive victory from as many starts this monsoon in the S.Rangarajan Memorial Cup. Jockey P.Trevor had an easy ride on the winner. As the six runners set out for the 2000 metres trip Red Rambble decided to go ahead and called the shots. Rio Rojo was in chase another two lengths away followed by Alameda and the rest. Rounding the final turn Rio Rojo moved alongside the leader and the transition was very fluent. Rio Rojo went about its job unperturbed while Carolina Moon out beat Red Rambble for the second place.

Trevor had another effortless win on M.Sathyanarayana trained City Of Harmony (Rebuttal-Well Rehearsed) in the G.Sudhakar Reddy Memorial Cup. After a rather lethargic beginning City Of Harmony moved around the field and raced in fifth. Kohinoor Grace led them followed by Midnight In Paris, Big Flash and Ashwa Raftar. On top of the straight the leaders started to weaken and City Of Harmony surged ahead without much effort. The 3 years old extended well to win easily followed by Ashwa Raftar. Big Flash finished third while Gangadhar filled the frame.

D.Netto trained Silvassa (Kingda Ka-Saa’ida) proved to be a good stayer while decimating the opposition in the Loyal Prince Plate. Six runners lined up for the 2200 metres trip. Having won its last start over a similar trip Silvassa was installed as the favourite at 13-10. The filly after easing out in about fourth till the bend moved smoothly to take it up from Cash For Rank on top of the straight. Silvassa stretched out effortlessly to be a distance ahead at the finish. Cash For Rank rallied on in second. Green Memories and Sir Walter Raleigh finished third and fourth respectively.

Trainer M.Srinivas Reddy and apprentice Abhishek S Pawar scored a straight double through Miracle King and Cash Landing and then picked up a third through Manogamini. Miracle King (Kingda Ka-Michele Marieci) scored an encore in the Cordon Bleu Plate. Magna Carta went on a start to finish bid with Miracle King in close attendance. On the straight the two came in together and Miracle King looked to be travelling the better but Magna Carta never gave up and was up with renewed effort along the inside. The two went stride for stride throughout the last furlong and Miracle King got the nod on the post. Western Wind was finishing on to be third.

Cash Landing (Hymn-Code Red) was very impressive while scoring her maiden win in the Prince Regent Plate. After a good start Cash Landing settled in second when Yes Baby decided to show the way. Inside the last 400 metres Cash Landing surged ahead and started moving away from the rest. Penthesilea got the better of Yes Baby in the last 100 metres to finish second.

Manogamini (Stern Opinion-Sylvia Says) won the lower division of the Star Of Stars Cup. Improving gradually Manogamini was chasing the leader My Choice as they passed the 600 metres board. The filly shot to the lead on top of the straight and quickened well when Back To Business came charging inside the last 100 metres. Island Bird finished third ahead of Delta Force.

There was an upset in the higher division with M.Sathyanarayana saddling his second winner through Exclusive Monarchy (Varenar-Native Quest). Exclusive Monarchy fell back to fifth position after a good beginning. Bharat King headed to the lead approaching the last 300 metres and Exclusive Monarchy came charging from the outside. The filly took charge and held on gamely by half a length from Bharat King. Wine N Dine moved fast to finish a close third.

Veteran trainer Ashwini (Stern Opinion-Stroke Of Luck) scored a facile win in the Top Most Plate. Approaching the last 300 metres Man Of The Series was being challenged by Arracache when Ashwini stormed from the outside and drew clear. Arracache finished on in second ahead of Pride And Glory and Carnival Express.

S.A.Shehzad Abbas trained Brioni (Rebuttal-Mullagh) pulled off a maiden win in the lower division. Jamie after leading from the word ‘go’ gave way to Sefarina inside the last 400 metres. When things looked good for Sefarina Brioni came with a resolute gallop from the wide outside and sped past to wrap it up by half a length in the last few strides.
