CAMERON WINS THE GOLCONDA ST.LEGER

Kunigal Stud Farm that is way ahead of the rest in the race for the Champion Stud of the year bagged the Golconda St.Leger (Gr.2), the last Classic of the monsoon season at Hyderabad and also the last of the Classics' in the country for the year. The outcome of the Golconda St.Leger (Gr.2), was on expected lines with S.S.Attaollahi trained Cameron (Admiralofthefleet-Camarioca / Kunigal Stud)pulling it off by a length from Let The Lion Roar. A field of five 4 years old lined up for the grueling 2800 metres. Cameron got to the front to lead the pack right from the start. Festive Cheer settled in second followed by Carolina Moon, Let The Lion Roar and Woman O War. Passing the 1200 metres board Carolina Moon showed some intent and headed past Cameron but was out of steam as they rounded the final turn. Cameron once again regained the lead on top of the straight and was challenged strongly by Let The Lion Roar inside the last furlong. Cameron quickened when urged by Jockey Trevor and staved off Let The Lion Roar. Festive Cheer was third many lengths away.

K.Satheesh trained King Of Pop (Noverre-Atmosphere) came with a late burst of speed to down the heroic efforts of Vijay’s Joy to lift the Dundoo Ekambar Memorial Cup, a 1200 metres dash for horses in the highest category. Vijay’s Joy carrying a back breaking weight of 64 kilograms set off speedily along with Numinous. The favourite Commanding Boy raced third a gap of five lengths behind followed by King Of pop and the rest. Inside the last 300 metres Vijay’s Joy surged ahead and was looking to carry the top weight safely home when King Of Pop came charging in the last 100 metres and snatched the victory in the dying moments of the race. Commanding Boy and Vallee Secrete finished a close third and fourth respectively.

Anupam Sharma’s Princess Hina (Royal Gladiator-Camarero) held off Symbol Of Pride’s threat in the higher division of the Faridon S Chenoy Memorial Cup. The filly streaked to the lead from an inward draw as the gates opened. Symbol Of Pride always in second began to throw a challenge in the last 200 metres. The two fought a grim battle and Princess Hina held on by quarter of a length at the finish. Green Image finished third and Red Express ended up fourth.

M.Sathyanarayana’s City Of Pearls (Noverre-Pearl Moon) stopped the winning streak of Oh Dear in the lower division. Oh Dear having won all its four starts and vying for a fifth one was sent off as the favourite at 12-10. Kohinoor Grace and Oh Dear matched strides from the start and came in together on the straight. On top of the straight Oh Dear shot ahead and went clear by two lengths. City Of Pearls began to gallop from the outside and the bay colt covered ground and surged ahead easily long way from home. Queen Of Stars finished third. Tinsel Town was withdrawn near the gates.

Penumatcha’s Pride (Ivory Touch-Penumatcha), a 10-1 shot from R.H.Sequeira’s stables got the nod in a ding dong battle in the Mystical Cup. Penumatcha’s Pride went on a start to finish bid over the 2400 metres trip. The on-money favourite Nautanki made a swift move from the rear to take over the running passing the seven furlongs board. Turning for home Penumatcha’s Pride bridged the lead and was up with a challenge from the outside. The two went stride for stride throughout the final furlong and Penumatcha’s Pride edged out Nautanki by a head at the wire. Upon A Star was third more than eight lengths away.

Jockey Dashrath Singh rode D.Netto’s Flower Roll Up (C P west-Arikana) to win the Blue Ice Plate. Racing about two lengths adrift of the leader Modern Sniper till the last 300 metres Flower Roll Up surged ahead. Rebellion made a strong bid in the last 200 metres but Flower Roll Up quickened towards the finish to win by a length and a half. Rebellion, Crown Royal and Undhu Undhu Undhu finished in that order in a close finish behind the winner.

Netto and Dashrath Singh had teamed up earlier to win the opener of the day, the Cape Knight Plate. Tracking Pride And Glory till entering the straight, King David went into the lead and stretched out effortlessly to win by a big margin of five lengths. Yes Baby, Poll Promise and Pride And Joy filled the frame in that order.

Trainer Laxman Singh sent out Apache Gal (Declaration Of War-Minivet) to a maiden win in the division I of the Mahabubnagar Plate, the last race of the penultimate day of the season and keep alive his chances of topping the trainers’ table. Laxman Singh is now only a point behind Deshmukh in the race. Platinum was on a start to finish bid and Apache Gal well behind in seventh as they turned for home. Unleashing a run from the extreme outside Apache Gal covered ground and sped past Platinum in the last few strides. Vijay’s Honour finished third and Egyptian Wind ended up fourth.
