Trainer Imtiaz Khan leading Madame Bovary (A Ramu Up), winner of The M.K.Srinivas Memorial Trophy

Imtiaz Khan trained Madame Bovary (Crown Jewels-Genesis / Noble Stud) scored an encore in the M.K.Srinivas Memorial Trophy, a seven furlongs race for horses rated 60 and above, the main event of Saturday’s races at Mysore. The speedy Speartooth went on a start to finish bid and came in first on the straight. Madama Bovary came in quick to join from the outside and was slightly ahead passing the 300 metres. Ontime also began to challenge and the three went all out. Madame Bovary finally spared half a length to Ontime at the finish in a keenly contested race. Speertooth was a close third with Force Ensign filling the frame.

Young Prashant Pramod Dhebe, the new sensation in Indian racing rode a treble and also graduated to be a ‘full’ jockey completing riding the mandatory 40 wins. He was astride S.Padmanabhan’s Burnished Gold (Rebuttal-Paramo / Hazara Stud) in its hat-trick performance in the Mysore Race Club Trophy. Racing in about fifth till the last 600 metres Burnished Gold moved swiftly to be up in front on the top of the straight. Trust Me Boy came fast from the rear but ran a bit erratic and just could not catch Burnished Gold. Script Writer came in late to take the third spot ahead of Felix Legion.

Coffee Time and Birchwood were the other two winners of Dhebe. Birchwood (Green Coast-Petra / Bishan Stud) made every post a winning one in the Mount Everest Plate. Jumping out smartly Birchwood rushed to the front and led well. Wind Striker and Strong Conviction raced close behind but were mere spectators approaching the final furlong when Birchwood started to pull away from them. Super Smart covered plenty of ground, flying towards the closing stages but Birchwood and Dhebe were safe home by a long neck. Strong Conviction was third long way behind.

Dhebe started the day with a win on C.D.Monnappa’s Coffee Time (Fantabulous King-Time Is Money / Hurricane Stud) in the lower division of the Mulki Plate. Coffee Time was again slowly away missing about a length at start. Dhebe nursed the 6 years old to improve position. Inside the last 200 metres Peppr and Senator were in front with Coffee Time gaining ground. Dazzle Away alao galloped strongly widest of all and joined Coffee Time at the winning post. The magic eye went in favour of Coffee Time who had held on by a short-head. Peppr finished third ahead of Senator.

G.Srinivas Babu trained Dr.Scully (varenar-Semper Eadem / Equus Stud) held on by a whisker from Aliboxer and Sairani in a three way finish in the higher division of the Srirangapattana Plate. Ridden by Shobhan Babu Dr.Scully took over from Legal Legacy in the last 250 metres. Sairani was in hot chase and Aliboxer came flying from behind. The three went almost together past the winning post with very little separating the winner from the second. The magic eye gave the verdict in favour of Dr.Scully. Jersey Bride ended up fourth.

Jockey Y.S.Srinath rode out Imtiaz Khan trained Stellar Ambition (Gaswar-Kilspindie / Lingwood Stud) to win the lower division. The seven years old that had not won a race for the last three years missed the jump by about two lengths. Stella Mari shot to the front and led into the home stretch followed closely by Look Out. Stellar Ambition came charging from the outside approaching the last 200 metres and surged past Stella Mari by over a length. Diamond Attraction rallied on in third ahead of Look Out.

Prasanna Kumar trained Back Of Beyond (Ivory Touch-Pretty Move / Mare Haven Stud) pulled off an upset in the Theerthahalli Plate. Racing in about eigth Back Of Beyond started to make progress from the outside on entering the straight. Balian went for it and grabbed the lead passing the 200 metres board and Love Is Life joined the fight. Back Of Beyond ridden by apprentice Antony Raj creeped up from the outside and out-beat the fighting duo. Love Is Life edged out Balian for the second place. Desert Gilt finished fourth.

Trainer Pratap Kamath had a double at nourishing odds. His 5 years old Kallistrate (Oath-Romantic Dreams / Pratap Stud) went on a start to finish bid in the division I of the Mulki Plate. Jumping out well from the outer most draw Kallistrate was speedy to get to the rails to lead the pack. Inside the last 400 metres Kallistrate started to drift out of the straight course but continued to maintain a good lead and won from Getafix who was in chase all through the trip. Napolean Dynamite and Delilah finished third and fourth respectively.

Pratap pulled off his double through Amorate (Alnasr Alwasheek-Auberge / Pratap Stud) in the Nyveli Plate, the concluding race of the day. Chasing Arrive till the top of the straight Amorate surged ahead and kicked on till the winning post. Arrive held off Dare The Don’s strong bid to finish second. The favourite Castlebar finished fourth after running erratic down the stretch.
