THE WOLF EATS INTO SEA LAGOON’S PIE IN THE FEATURE

Michael Eshwer trained The Wolf (Arabian Gulf-Amazing Senorita / Manjri Stud) pulled off a stunning victory over the firm favourite Sea Lagoon in a close finish in the S.M.Attaollahi Memorial Trophy, the main event of Wednesday’s races at Mysore. Sea Lagoon that was in rousing form winning four races in a row before ending up second in the recently concluded main season here was installed as the hot favourite for the seven furlongs race. Entering the straight Sea Lagoon rushed through the inside to hit the front and The Wolf ranged up from the outside. Sea Lagoon drifted out on top of the straight John was quick to arrest the drift as the filly went close to The Wolf. The two fought out every inch of the last 300 metres and The Wolf travelled the better under Keanen Steyn to deny Sea Lagoon a win by a narrow margin. Color Proof finished in the money ahead of Ontime. Arizona Sun was withdrawn after he bolted from the gates and completed the course. 

Trainer Eshwer had a profitable day sending out three winners. Michaela and Waterfall were the other two victors from the stable. Michaela (Roderic O’Connor-Zabadani / Nanoli Stud) completed a hat-trick from as many starts in fine style in the Big Deal Plate. The bottom weighted Excelonce set off in front followed by Spinning Chakram, Michaela, Scriptwriter and the rest. Approaching the last 400 metres on the straight jockey S.John hurried up Michaela along the rails and was in front quickly. The filly galloped freely in front to increase the lead even as Scriptwriter worked hard in second. Momotaro finished third to be in the money while Just By Chance completed the frame.

Waterfall (Holy Roman Emperor-Discover Roma / Manjri Stud) earned its maiden win in an impressive fashion in the lower division of the Great Cherisma Plate. Keanen Steyn took the 3 years old filly to the front within the first furlong and settled well to lead the pack. Waterfall brought them all into the straight and kicked on easily in front even as Here’s Abbey tried to make a race of it. Robinhood Pandey raced in third right through the last 400 metres and finished that way. Eudora after bracing the rear till the bend finished on in fourth.  

The field in the higher division of the Great Cherisma Plate was reduced to eight runners with Ascendency being withdrawn on veterinary grounds in the morning. S.Rakesh trained Chandini (Crown Jewel-Princess Chand / Noble Stud) scored an upset win over the mile trip. Into the straight Dancing Blues had grabbed the lead and Chandini who was racing second last till the bend improved well to be on its haunches. The two fought for a brief while and Chandini surged ahead and went clear inside the last 150 metres. Dancing Blues stayed on in second while the fancied Skyfullofstars rallied on in third ahead of Amazing.  

The first race for the new lot of youngsters this season was won by M.Bobby trained Domitia (Green Coast-Finfoot /A B Stud). The bay filly was speedy at start and rushed to grab the lead. On entering the final straight Country’s Storm who was chasing the leader all the way began to get closer but Domitia picked up momentum when reminded with one crack by the rider and stretched out nicely to win by a big margin. Country’s Storm held on to the second place from the favourite The Imposter. Amaris finished fourth. 

Pratap Kamath trained Azure Fire (Tejano-Crown Secret / Kunigal Stud) scored a much needed win for the stable in the division I of the Kakanakote Plate. The 6 years old was sent off as the favourite despite not winning a race for over a year and a half. Azure Fire shot to the lead from draw one as the gates opened and made every post a winning one. Beautiful Effect chased the leader all the way from the start and ended up second. Catchy Charger and Forest Queen finished third and fourth respectively. Ice Sprint was a non-starter in the race.

Trainer Dinesh Pujar got the much needed win when his 6 years old mare Kentucky Rose (Rebuttal-Intimate / Hazara Stud) won the lower division. The last Kentucky had won a race was over two years ago and had come down considerably in handicap. Racing prominently till the final bend Kentucky Rose shot through to take the lead on entering the straight. Jockey V.R.Jadeesh took the stick and Kentucky Rose started to drift out. Despite the drift Kentucky Rose kept kicking on and won comfortably. Mother Ewa held on to the second place from Garv while Eloika filled the frame. 

T.Natraj trained Amazing Khodal (Glory Of Dancer-Destiny’s Child / Broadacres Stud) opened its account in the Manasagangotri Plate. Sazae San rushed to the front as the gates opened and set out on a start to finish bid. Amazing Khodal settled in second followed by the rest. The two stable mates broke away from the rest on entering the straight and Amazing Khodal went past passing the 200 metres board and drew clear. As Always came in late to take the third place ahead of Neron.
