Trainer L V R Deshmukh (Deputising trainer S S Attaollahi) leading Acclaimed (P Trevor Up), winner of The Ghulam Ahmed Memorial Cup

S.S.Attaollahi trained Aclaimed (Burden Of proof-Alnasreya / Kunigal Stud) made its trip to Hyderabad worthwhile, winning the Ghulam Ahmed Memorial Cup, a seven furlongs race for horses in the highest category that featured Sunday’s races. Acclaimed was sent off as the Even money favourite among the seven horses that lined up.

As they set off, Kolors got to the lead with The Healer in close attendance. Acclaimed settled nicely in third along the rails followed by Found Money, Happy Guy, Rio Rojo and Gaarswood. Turning for home Acclaimed waited patiently along the rails for the false rails to reduce on the straight. As he found the gap Trevor guided Acclaimed through the rails and the 6 years old was quick to go for it and emerge in front. Found Money started to reduce the margin towards the closing stages but Acclaimed was safely home by three parts of a length. Kolors finished third ahead of The Healer.

Laxman Singh trained Top Contender (Top Class-Mizzna) scored an easy win in the Andhra Sub Area Cup. Charming Beauty led till the top of the straight and gave up. Breezeofthsouth and Top Contender surged ahead together and after matching strides for a short while the latter picked up momentum and drew clear. Exclusive Wind finished on being third ahead of Magna Carta.

After a three way fight down the last 200 metres K.Satheesh trained Handy Man (Dancing Forever-Tourmalet) scored an encore in the Ch V.Lakshmi Prasad Rao ‘Sirdesai’ Sircilla Memorial Cup. As the six runners showed up on the straight Handy Man went ahead and had a slender lead over Elysian that was ranging up from the outside. The favourite Naazaan also started to gain ground from the inside and the three went for it inside the last furlong. Handy Man galloped the best to pull it off by three parts of a length from Naazaan while Elysian ended up third another half a length away. Cloud Dancer filled the frame.

The day started off with L.V.R.Deshmukh’s Time Is Luck (Varenar-Touch A Star) cantering home an easy winner in the division I of the Kuntala Plate. The chestnut filly had won last exactly a year ago and was sent off at lucrative odds. Chasing the leader Enter Canter till entering the home stretch Time Is Luck got to the front without any fuss and floored them all. Enter Canter stayed on in second followed by Golden Xanthus and Blaze Of Glory.

In the lower division trainer S.A.Shehzad Abbas’s Man Of The Series (Sylvanite-Pyjama Samba) opened its account in an impressive fashion. As they showed up on the straight Steyn Memories and Noble Heights came in almost together with Man Of The Series looking for a run between them. The gelding went ahead without being extended and stretched out effortlessly to win by a big margin. Hal Chal, Kohinoor Love and Noble Heights filled the frame in that order.

Trainer Deshmukh had a good day with a treble. His other two winners were Ashwa Ashoka and Torremolins. Both of them were ridden by Akshay Kumar. Torremilinos (Alnasr Alwasheek-Encouragement) won the Golden Dagger Plate. As they swung in round the final bend Kohinoor Karishma improved quickly from the outside and shot ahead. Torremolinos racing in about fourth made a move between horses to get behind Kohinoor Karishma. The long time leader Bouncer was also relentless along the rails even as Dolce joined the fight. Passing the distance post Torremolinos came away from the pack and strode clear. Dolce took the second position in front of Kohinoor Karishma and Bouncer.

Ashwa Ashoka (Rebuttal-Brindle Bug / Hazara Stud) scored a maiden win in the division I of the Birthday Girl Plate. Racing second last till approaching the last 600 metres Ashwa Ashoka took the shortest way to improve position and shot ahead inside the last 400 metres. Monte Rosa joined up from the outside and challenged briefly but Ashwa Ashoka travelled the better to pull away by three parts of a length. Own Battle finished a far away third.

Anupam Sharma trained Bharat Queen (Sedgefield-Red Fairy) just managed to scrape through in the higher division of the Bhongir Plate. Tracking the leader Pentagon till the top of the straight Bharat Queen forged ahead into contention. Secret Art was up with a challenge and Mandy charged from the outside to join Bharat Queen in the fight. The two went stride for stride in the last 100 metres and Bharat Queen held on by a short head. Secret Art and Born To Do It finished third and fourth respectively.

L.D’Silva’s Golden Image (Green Coast-Above The Line) scored it in the lower division to make it two in a row. Amazing Venus went on a start to finish bid over the 1200 metres sprint and was looking good in the last 100 metres. Golden Image came with a sustained gallop and bridging the gap at a fast pace just managed to snatch the victory from Amazing Venus on the last stride. The fancied runners Manoveg and Pixie Girl finished third and fourth respectively.
