EXCELONCE STORM(S) AHEAD IN FEATURE

S.Rakesh trained Excelonce (China Visit-Exquisite / Usha Stud) won the C.Dasharatharama Shetty Memorial Trophy, the main event of Wednesday’s races at Mysore. Kazuri set off in the lead followed closely by Excelonce. The piping hot favourite Storm Ahead raced third followed by the rest. On the straight Kazuri was relentless and continued to hold on to the lead. Jockey Irvan Singh started to ride hard on Excelonce and the bay geldingbridged the gap gradually and sped past inside the last 100 metres. Stor Ahead took some time to raise a gallop and once it did moved in to be the runner-up ahead of Kazuri. Just By Chance finished on in fourth. Generous Gesture was withdrawn on veterinary grounds near the gates.

Michael Eshwer trained Excelerate (Phoenix Tower-Roundtree / Manjri Stud) that had lost out to Flying Show in the last start reversed the order and bounced back to winning ways in the Sahyadri Plate. Chasing the leader Amazing Connection till the last 400 metres Excelerate picked up speed and surged ahead. Catharsis was in hot chase and Flying Show was also gaining ground from the outside. Excelerate kicked on gamely to spare two lengths to Flying Show at the finish. Catharsis fell back to third while Oceanic Storm filled the frame.

Trainers S.Rakesh and Michael Eshwer scored a brace each while Irvan Singh was the only rider to pull off a double.

Trainer S.Rakesh led in 5 years old mare Beautiful Effect (Duja-Loud Water / Pratap Stud ) to be the biggest upset of the day in the division I of the Mekedaatu Plate. Starstruck was up in front right from the word ‘go’ and Amazing Khodal joined up to race on its haunches. Kir Royale settled in third with Beautiful Effect racing a close fourth followed by the rest. As they straightened up jockey Irvan Singh was quick to get Beautiful Effect to grab the lead from the outside and Kir Royale looked for a path along the rails. As the gap opened up towards the rails Kir Royale rushed through and was fighting hard with Beautiful Effect. The two took the battle to the wire and Beautiful Effect held on by a head. Amazing Khodal stayed on in third followed by Skyfullofstars.

Md. Sajid Qureshi trained Zoe (European-Sacred Dreams / Arabesque Stud) won the lower division. Racing in about sixth till the final bend Zoe started to improve position and get into striking position behind Ice Sprint and Robinhood Pandey. Covering ground from behind Zoe went past Ice Sprint with 100 metres left to travel and won comfortably. Archimedes rallied on to finish third ahead of Robinhood Pandey.

Vishal Yadav schooled Nikka (Roi Maudit-Dorabella / Lingwood Stud) that was withdrawn a week earlier after having a fall in the saddling enclosure won the Fame And Glory Plate unchallenged. The filly was supported strongly to be the favourite at returns of Rs.17 for a tenner in the totalizator. Showing plenty of early speed Nikka stormed ahead to get to the front. Leading all the way Nikka kicked on in the straight and despite drifting out toyed around with Amaris chasing in second. Silvery Grey was a distance behind third. Brave Admiral was withdrawn after it went around the course rider less.

Michael Eshwer trained Tobin (Curule-Kool Kruiser / Regency Stud) that was winless from 11 starts finally came good to win the lower division of the Pattadakal Plate. Tobin was sent off as an on-money favourite after its notable second over 1200 metres during the recently concluded Mysore main season. With half a furlong less to travel Tobin on whom S.Zervan replaced P.Trevor shot to the lead as the gates opened and began to cut the wind. Inside the last 400 metres Run To Win who was tracking the leader put some effort to make a race of it but Tobin accelerated well to skip away clear. Point warmed up late to finish second while the top weighted Bryant Park also came up late to finish third. Run To Win finished fourth.

In the higher division the well supported Silsila (Sedgefield-Divine Honey / Jai Govind Stud) from M.Bobby’s yard ran away to an easy victory. Silsila sat in third behind Young Gallant and Oceana. As they rounded the final turn the two in front went wide and Silsila raced ahead from the inside. Silsila kept kicking on and extended the margin of victory to almost five lengths. Scorpene, Happy Victory and Ayahuasca filled the frame in that order.

T.Natraj trained Dazzle Away (Ravel-Ekta Ekta Ekta / Chhatari Plate) travelled the best on the home stretch to win the Dandeli Plate. The favourite Kodals Princess set off in the lead right from the start and Dazzle Away settled behind in second. On entering the straight jockey M Madhu Babu started to work on Dazzle Away and the filly that had remained a maiden even after 16 runs picked up speed and sped past. Kodals Princess, Precious Script and Delta Delight finished in that order in a close finish.

Country’s Warrior (Roi Maudit-Cypress Hills / Country Stud) scored a maiden win in the Crown Treasure Plate. The Ranjeet Shinde trainee got off to a good start and was well settled with the front bunch. Country’s Charm was soon ahead to be the leader and Country’s Warrior moved to second. Entering the straight Srinath found a welcome gap along the rails and guided Country’s Warrior through it. The gelding readily went for it and drew clear. It was close for the monio places with Blackwind coming in late to beat Samay Balwan and As Always.
