GALIAT UPSETS IN NORTHERN DANCER MILLION

Trainer D Netto leading Galiat (Louis Beuzelin Up), winner of The Northern Dancer Million

D.Netto trained Galiat (Mull Of Kintyre-Brazalia) pulled off a dramatic upset in the Northern Dancer Million, a terms race for 3 years old and upwards. The Sprinters Cup winner Adam carried the top billing among the five contenders for the seven furlongs trip. Galiat shot to the lead as the gates opened with Satellite in close attendance. Vijay Vidhata, Adam and Carlton followed with the entire field spread out within three lengths. Approaching the last 300 metres jockey Louis Beuzelin got busy on Galiat and the 6 years old gelding quickened readily to establish two lengths lead. Satellite was getting stronger inside the last 100 metres with Adam also charging up between the two. The three went past the winning post in a cluster and Galiat had gallantly held on to win by a short-head from Satellite. Adam was third another head adrift.

Netto and Beuzelin got their double for the day through Net Champ (Burden Of Proof-Sunny Clime) in the Umraolal Gupta Memorial Cup. Having found one better in its last two starts this season Net Champ was sent off as the firm favourite in the race. The gelding rushed to get to the front at start but fell back soon to settle in about fifth. As they turned for home Beuzelin waited for the path to open up in front and finding one on top of the straight he guided Net Champ through the gap. Net Champ was quickly in front and kicked on easily till the winning post. King Of Pop rallied on in second followed by Queen of the Stars and City Of wonders.

Jockey Louis Beuzelin who is having a good run this winter also rode S.A.Shehzad Abbas’s Brilliant (Razeen-Finest Hour) to a fine win in the Crown Treasure Plate. On top of the straight Vijays Splendour came in first with Undu Undu Undu gaining ground from the outside. Brilliant started to move up from the outside and after matching strides with Undu Undu Undu for a brief while forged ahead and drew clear. Vijay Vidyut and Sea Change finished third and fourth respectively.

Jockey C.Alford who had come down to Hyderabad specially to pilot Satellite, scored a solitary win on Faiyaz Shaikh trained Rubyonrails (Roi Maudit-Flaming Ruby) in the division I of the Tribute Plate. Chasing the leader Rock Heights till the last 300 metres Rubyonrails surged ahead without much fuss and stretched out to extend the margin of victory. While Rock Heights stayed on in second, Lopamudra and Egyptian Wind finished third and fourth respectively.

The lower division was won by K.V.Srinivas trained Oathofyourdaughter (Oath-Zante). As the field showed up on the straight Kohinoor Grace was up in front with Symbol Of Pride, Exclusive Beauty, Oathoryourdaughter and the rest. Mid-way up the straight Symbol Of Pride shifted out slightly and grabbing the opportunity apprentice G.Naresh did not lose time in sending out Oathofyourdaughter through the gap and the daughter of Oath galloped resolutely to hit the front and spare half a lengthto Exclusive Beauty at the finish. Symbol Of Pride finished third and Khoshgel fourth.

K.S.V.Prasad Raju schooled Gladstone was ridden to an easy win by Nilesh Rawal in the higher division of the Chaitanya Ratham Plate, a 1100 metres scurry for maiden 2 years old. Gladstone went to the front within the first furlong and leading all the way drew clear on the straight. Bayrd and True Hymn finished second and third respectively followed by Divine Silver.

In the lower division K.V.Srinivas trained Gladiator Royale (Royal Gladiator-Knowledgeable / Pratap Stud) pulled off a stunning upset making every post a winning one. Sharp Eye chased the winner all through to finish second while Lost And Found made a vain bid to collar the two in front but eventually ended up third. Reach The Heights filled the frame.

Anupam Sharma trained Act In Time (West Verginia-Akiydath) scored an impressive win in the division I of the Bonzer Cup. Racing a handy third till turning for home Act In Time slipped in along the fence as the false rails ended and heading past Sacrifice pulled away by two and a half lengths. Pegasus finished third many lengths behind while Back To Business ended up fourth. In the lower division L.V.R.Deshmukh trained Astra (Phoenix Tower-Additive/ Manjri Stud) pulled away to win by a lengthening margin. Racing close behind In Command and Buckshee, Astra made its way between them and getting to the front drew away by six lengths. Poll Promise, In Command and Buckshee filled the frame in that order.
