MR.BAAHUBALI STAYS ON COURSE IN FEATURE

L.V.R.Deshmukh trained Mr.Baahubali (Stern Opinion-Miss Langkawi) produced a mighty gallop to justify the favouritism and score an encore in the Nirmal Plate. The grey colt had accrued a penalty of 16 points for its win in the last start and the 3 years old was persisted with over the sprint, sent off as an on-money favourite. Improving gradually Mr.Baahubali raced in fifth as they headed past the 600 metres board while Numinous went on a start to finish bid. On the straight Mr.Baahubali slipped in along the rails to get to challenge Numinous and quickening well inside the last 150 metres sped past to register a fine win. Commanding Boy finished third ahead of Vallee Secrete.

Anupam Sharma trained Exclusive Wind (Ravel-Calliope) pulled off an upset in the Gajasimha Rao Memorial Cup. Into the last 200 metres Double Charter and Mirfield were fighting it out when Exclusive Wind came flying from the outside and flashed past. Double Charter and Mirfield went past the winning post together to finish second and third respectively with only a nose separating them. Citi Colors finished fourth.

Trainer Laxman Singh who saddled a back to back double earned the first win through Aragonda Princess (Whatsthescript-Reforest) in the Mirza Zunnur Ahmed Memorial Cup. Entering the straight Masti rushed through the inside to grab the lead. Aragonda Princess weaved its way between horses to challenge Masti and sped past inside the last 100 metres. Cash Landing and Big Flash finished third and fourth respectively.

Apache Gal (Declaration of War-Minivet) was the second winner for the trainer in the division I of the Malvado Plate. Apprentice Gopal Singh pushed Apache Gal to get to the front early. Inside the final furlong Apache Gal continued to hold on well even as Perfection began to close up and passed the winning post half a length ahead. Dolce raced in third all the way and finished that way. Forever Bullish filled the frame.

Suraj Narredu rode out K.S.V.Prasad Raju’s The Blue (Admiralofthefleet-Favoured) to lift the lower division of the race.  The Blue whose last win was exactly a year ago went into the seven furlongs race as the on-money favourite. Racing a handy third till the final bend The Blue set off to challenge Roma Rouge on the straight and surged ahead. Vijays Delight began to get  closer in the last 100 metres but Suraj’s strong handling enabled The Blue to hang on by a quarter of a length. Roma Rouge finished third ahead of Naamdhari.

M.Sathyanarayana trained Ragas Ajalias (Ontario-Briland) justified the favouritism in the division I of the Flirting Vision Plate. The chestnut filly got to the lead within the first furlong of the race and made every post a winning one thereof. Avantika, Scooby Dooby Doo and My Choice came charging towards the winner in the closing stages and filled the minor slots of the frame in that order in a close finish. There was commotion in the jockey’s room after the race, with jockey Louis Beuzelin assaulting apprentice C.P.Boppanna for reportedly causing interference during the race. Beauzelin was pulled up by the stewards for impropriety and slapped with two days suspension in addition to a fine of Rs.20000/-.

Arjun Anne trained Prime Time (Mull Of Kontyre-Marmalade) scored its maiden win in the lower division. Chasing Bouncer and Royal Dynamite till the top of the straight Prime Time got stronger from the outside and forged ahead. Royal Dynamite rallied on in second followed by Olympic Hero and Bouncer.

S.S.Faisal Hassan’s trainee Southern Crown (Eljohar-Jingles) made it a start to finish affair in the Classic Style Plate. Setting off in the lead right from the word ‘go’, Southern Crown came in first on the straight. Passing the distance marker the favourite Far Sight was up with a challenge but failed to collar Southern Crown and ended up second. Lady In Lace and Lady Admiral finished third and fourth respectively.

L.D’Silva trained Great Glory (Lucifer Sam-Regal Glory) that was winless from nine starts finally came good to win the Gangotri Plate, the concluding race of the day. Apprentice A.A.Vikrant pushed hard to take Great Glory to the front as they field of thirteen settled down. Mid-way up the straight Rohini and Shandaar were up with a strong challenge but Great Glory kicked on to pull it off by over two lengths. Shandaar beat Rohini for the second plave.
