C.D.Monnappa trained Script Writer (Whatsthescript-Aplysia / Nanoli Stud) ridden by Arshad Alam shocked the followers of form by slamming the small field in the inaugural edition of the Mysore Super Mile Championship. The 4 years old filly that had won only once in its career – the Mysore Race Club Million – was at longer odds while the two Bangalore challengers Acclaimed and Blazing Touch enjoyed the top billing in that order.

Ancient Title set off in the lead right from the start followed by Acclaimed, Script Writer, Blazing Touch with Lorenzo and Sea Lagoon backing up the rear. On entering the straight Acclaimed made the first move to head past Ancient Title. Script Writer started to rally behind Acclaimed quickly and travelled the better to overhaul the favourite inside the last 100 metres. Blazing Touch came in late to finish second ahead of Acclaimed. For the record Sea Lagoon filled the frame.

Arrive (Medicean-Tetisheri / Kunigal Stud) who had performed consistently over the last five outings bounced back to win the Karkala Plate, a 1200 metres sprint for horses rated 60 and above. Jockey Arshad Alam timed his move nicely to get the 6 years old to raise a gallop at the right time. The favourite Gelignite was in front as the came into the last 400 metres with Abderus fighting from the inside and Kazuri rallying strongly close to the rails. With a furlong left from the winning post Arrive started to pick up speed from behind and swooped on the front runners to settle the issue. Kazuri did well to retain the second spot from Abderus and Gelignite.

M.Bobby trained Silsila (Sedgefield-Divine Honey / Jai Govind Stud) defied the stiff penalty of 17 points to score an encore in the Skyline Plate. The 7 years old was quick at start and got to the lead from an inward draw. Dare The Don surged ahead as they headed past the 1000 metres and Silsila decided to track the leader. Passing the 300 metres Silsila started to gain ground and forged ahead, opening a lead of over two lengths. With about 100 metres left from the post Classic King and Vini Vidi Vici came devouring ground from the rear but failed to collar Silsila and finished second and third respectively. Generous Gesture ended up fourth.

C.D.Monnappa schooled Brave Admiral (Lord Admiral-Lyrical Bid / Sans Craintes Stud) that was sent off as the ‘half money’ favourite for the Mauritius Pearl Plate justified the top billing but not before giving a scare. Brave Admiral was speedy at start to range up from the outside and get to the front. Amazing Safari raced close behind and the two had pulled away from the rest. On the straight Amazing Safari came alongside and forged ahead for a brief while. Brave Admiral fought back and regained the lead and held on by a length from a fast finishing Sadeek. Amazing Safari finished third another length away and a faraway fourth was Country’s Gold. Miss Tricky had bolted on the way to the gates and was permitted to be withdrawn.

Ranjeet Shinde trained Archimedes (Ace-Victory And Gold / Poonawalla Stud)that had shifted base from Western India recently earned the first win on this track in the Ansbach Plate. Improving places over the last two runs Archemedes was sent off as the favourite at 2-1. Cato’s Call and Golden Steps were disputing the lead followed closely by Archemedes. Inside the last 300 metres the three of them got in a line and after a keen tussle Archemedes surged ahead from the outside. Cato’s Call stayed on in second followed by Golden Steps. Eudoro ended up fourth. Gran Turismo was withdrawn on veterinary grounds before the race.

Michael Eshwer trained Gusty Wind (Rebuttal-Chilly Wind / Hazara Stud) flew in from nowhere to win the division I of the Panaji Plate. Starstruck had gone ahead of Eloika inside the last 200 metres and was looking good when Gusty Wind who was travelling way behind in about eighth position suddenly gained momentum under Cedric Segeon and flew down the stretch to get the better of Starstruck in the shadow of the winning post. Eloika held on in third from Country’s Power.

There was a big flow of money towards S.M.Johnson trained Benedetta (Rebuttal-Empress Jessie / Hazara Stud) in the lower division. The filly that had gone down narrowly in its last run made amends to win with authority. Teri Adah went to the front from the start and Benedetta had settled nicely in second. Passing the 300 metres board Benedetta headed past the leader smoothly and scored a maiden win in fine fashion. Here’s Abbey came in late to take the second spot. Teri Adah just managed to hold on to the third place from Italian Stallion.

Progenies of Roi Maudit won both the divisions of the Nelamangala Plate. Feroz M Khan trained Country’s Courage (Roi Maudit-Fabulous Gal / Country Stud) opened its account in an impressive fashion in the higher division. Chasing the leader Al Dahma till entering the home stretch Country’s Courage surged ahead with minimum effort and extended the margin of victory even as Lovely Micmel tried hard only to finish second. Young Gallant rallied on in third while Order Order filled the frame.

Dinesh Pujar trained Roi Junior (Roi Maudit-Fleeting Wish / Country Stud) that was winless from a dozen starts came good to win the lower division. Roi Junior was sent off as the favourite for the 1100 metres dash at 7-4. Smartest out of the gates from the outermost draw Roi Junior moved towards the rails to be the torch bearer. Leading all the way Roi Junior came under pressure inside the last 150 metres but jockey G.Sai Vamshi ensured that the 5 years old continued to kick on and hold on by half a length from Country’s Tigress. Neron did well to get to third place another neck behind. Always Resolute was troublesome near the gates and was withdrawn.
