M.Bobby trained Extra Spark (Sussex-Machiavelli / Badal Stud) produced a scintillating gallop inside the last furlong to slam the Dr.Ishwari G.K.Balakrishnan Memorial Trophy, the main event of Wednesday’s races at Mysore. Kaguya Himei set off on a start to finish bid over the mile trip and led by almost two lengths as they approached the last 200 metres. Class Is Class was the only challenger that looked to have a chance at that stage even as Extra Spark raced in about seventh. With about 100 metres left from the winning post Kaguya Himei was stubbornly ahead and looking good when Extra Spark moved with a blistering turn of foot and got the better in the shadow of the winning post. Class Is Class held on in third from a fast finishing Momotaro. The firm favourite Michaela lost lot of ground after a sluggish star and still managed to finish fifth.

Michael Eshwer trained Poet (Arabian Gulf-Meydana / Manjri Stud) outclassed its opponents in the Bold Majesty Plate. The 4years old gelding that had won by a big margin in the lower class was sent off as the on-money favourite despite the heavy penalty. Racing handily in third behind Spinning Chakram and Aliboxer Poet slipped in between them on entering the straight and extended the margin of victory to a distance. In a fight for the minor places Ascendency finished second ahead of Tremendous and Aliboxer. Skyjet was a non-starter in the race.

Trainer S. Rakesh had a good day winning the first three races of the day. Star Style, Infinithoughts and Ice Brown were the victors from the stable. Star Style (Steinbeck-Transformation / Usha Stud) that had misses out narrowly last time over six furlongs used the additional furlong to her advantage and won the B.Khanna Memorial Plate with a sizable lead. Country’s Storm set off in front and Star Style tracked a length behind. Passing the 500 metres Star Style moved up around the leader and surged ahead on entering the straight. Star Style increased the lead to five lengths while Nikka, Captain America and Admiral Act filled the frame in that order in a close finish.

Infinithoughts (Hymn-Sparkling Champagne / Jai Govind Stud) made amends to its earlier defeat and won the Sirsi Plate. The 9 years old raced a handy fourth behind Subhagya, Sazae San and Safe Bet. Inside the last 400 metres Sazae San surged ahead to grab the lead and was joined by Safe Bet from the inside and Infinithoughts from the outside. The three broke away from the rest and after a keen fight Infinithoughts moved clear with 100 metres left from the finish. Sazae San just held on to the second place from Safe Bet. Subhagya ended up fourth.

Ice Brown (Red Clubs-Born Beautiful / Sans Craintes Stud) scored a decisive win in the lower division of the Sankranthi Plate. Sivanta was very keen early in the race and going to the front had opened a leeway of over four lengths as they turned for home. Ice Brown raced second followed by the rest. Once on the straight Ice Brown started to reduce Sivanta’s lead and catching up soon took charge and drew clear. Sivanta stayed on in second while Wolf Rock held on in third from the late finishing Alps.

S.M.Johnson trained Protector Of Paris (Noverre-La Cienega / Sohna Stud) who is running for the first time this season came good to win the division I of the Sankranti Plate. Protector Of Paris took a good jump and rushed to the front but settled to run second when Dhanyavaad showed early speed to get to the lead. Dhanyavaad brought the field into view on the straight but surrendered the lead to Protector Of Paris inside the last 300 metres. Zoe began to challenge from the outside with Amazing in tow. Protector Of Paris held on to pull it off by a neck from Zoe. Amazing finished a close third ahead of Dhanyavaad. Ruthba was withdrawn after being troublesome in the gates.

Feroz M Khan trained Country’s Courage (Roi Maudit-Fabulous Gal / Country Stud) defied the penalty to score an encore in a runaway fashion in the division I of the Himalayas Plate. The trainer decided to take advantage of an allowance and opted for apprentice G.Rohith on the gelding. Country’s Courage jumped out smartly from the outermost draw and quickly joined the leaders Born For Success and Ephialties. Approaching the final turn Country’s Courage went a bit wide but forged ahead at the same time to get to the front. On entering the straight Country’s Courage drew away from the pack and extended the margin of victory to over eight lengths. Ephialties finished second in front of Touch Of Romance and Born For Success.

Pratap Kamath trained 7 years old mare Teri Adah (Tejano-Sea Spray / Kunigal Stud) that had won only once in its career spanning 30 runs came good to win the lower division. Teri Adah got to the front to lead with Peace Time in close attendance till the top of the straight. On the straight Teri Adah was still in control and Ireland began to challenge. With 100 metres left from the finish Ireland inched closer with every stride but the winning post came to the rescue of Teri Adah who held on by a short neck. Peace Time stayed on in third followed by Golden Cruise.

The 8 years old Robinhood Pandey (Mull Of Kintyre-Lovely Fantasy / Manjri Stud) trained by J.Saravanan carried the top weight of 62.5 kilograms to win the Antequera Plate. Heidrun went on a start to finish bid and came into the straight with a lead of over two lengths. Stride To Success chased the leader into the straight followed closely by Robinhood Pandey. Inside the last 300 metres Robinhood Pandey started to bridge the gap and surged ahead to hit the winning post first. Coffee Time came in late to finish a close second while Samay Balwan also put in a late run to beat Heidrun on the post for the third place.
