Trainer K Satheesh leading Happy Guy (N S Rathore Up), winner of The Kakatiya Million (Gr.3)

K.Satheesh trained Happy Guy (Slicky-Ladyfish) pulled off a stunning upset in the Kakatiya Million (Gr.3) nailing the accomplished Adam on the post. Vijays Joy slipped into the lead as the seven runners settled down for the sprint race followed by Mr. Baahubali, Sans Peur, Adam, Pentagram, Happy Guy and Carlton. Inside the last 300 metres Mr. Baahubali headed past the weakening Vijays Joy. Adam started to gallop strongly from behind and tackled Mr. Bahubali and was looking to emerge on top when Happy Guy came devouring ground and managed to stick its nose in front at the winning post. Mr.Baahubali stayed on in third while Sans Peur filled the frame.

D.Netto trained Sea Castle (Green Coast-Ice Castle) scored an encore in the Rock Of Gibraltar Cup but the gelding had to work a bit harder this time to earn the win. Approaching the final furlong George Cross had an edge along the rails. Sea Castle joined from the outside and Mandy made her move between the two. The three of them headed towards the winning post in a line and as they neared the post Sea Castle forged ahead under the strong riding of Louis Beuzelin to win by quarter of a length from Mandy and George Cross. Magna Carta finished on in fourth.

Bay gelding True Hymn (Sussex-Genius Empress) that had figured on frame in all its four starts justified the favouritism in the division I of the Chaitanya Chakram Plate. Jumping out from the outermost draw True Hymn grabbed the rails quickly to lead the pack and made every post a winning one. Aerofoil was galloping well towards the end but could only finish second a length and a half behind. Amazing Response and Reach The Heights finished third and fourth respectively. K.S.V.Prasad Raju’s Proud Warrior (Green Coast-Okati Okati Okati) turned out to be the stumbling block for the short priced Money Time in the lower division of the race for maiden 3 years old. Proud Warrior was the smartest off the gates from the extreme outside draw and rushed to gain the lead. Inside the last 200 metres Proud Warrior was still holding on to the lead and Money Time came charging forward. The rider of Money Time tried his best to get the favourite to overhaul the leader but Proud Warrior kicked on to keep the ‘Money’ at bay. Turf Legend finished third ahead of Free Eagle.

The two divisions of the Basara Cup were won by horses at nourishing odds. K.Satheesh trained Poll Promise (Noverre-Lightining Speed) won the higher division by a big margin. After a good start from the wide outside draw apprentice C.P.Boppanna was vigorous in pushing Poll Promise to gain the early lead. Entering the last 400 metres Poll Promise had a lead of over two lengths and the filly started to build up on that to win by a wide margin of over seven lengths. Green Striker raced second all the way and stubbornly held on to that place from In Command and Nelly.

Laxman Singh trained Kiss N Chase (Top Class-Lovely Senorita) whose previous win was over a year ago necked out Globetrotter in the lower division. Hunter’s Pride on a start to finish bid brought the field into view on the straight and held forte till into the last 200 metres. Globetrotter came with a strong gallop and grabbed the lead 100 metres from home but just couldn’t pull through as Kiss N Chase came from far behind to stick its neck out at the wire. Four horses went past together for the remaining two places in the frame with Jem Star getting into the money beating Hunter’s Pride.

Trainer K.R.K.Raju succeeded in having his wards finish one-two in the division II of the Ambition Plate but it was the lesser fancied Kohinoor Valour that made it to the winning post first ahead of Cannon Hope. The favourite Cash For Rank went on a start to finish bid over the 1800 metres trip and had built up a big lead of almost a distance. Approaching the distance marker the bay colt had spent out all the fuel in the tank and Cannon Hope went ahead to grab the lead. Kohinoor Valour that was bracing the rear order till turning for home gradually covered ground and went past the stable mate inside the last 100 metres. Seeking Alpha and Sensational Girl finished third and fourth respectively.

In the higher division I M.Srinivas Reddy trained Ta Ta (Rebuttal-Elzain / Hazara Stud) came out of its maiden ranks in the twelfth attempt. Inside the last 300 metres Whisper had slipped in to take up the running through the shortest path. Ta Ta improved position between runners and with a final burst of speed overhauled Whisper by three parts of a length. Kohinoor Flare and Green Memories filled the frame in that order.
