DARIUS BYRAMJI REGISTERS FINE TREBLE

By Ikram Khan | 11 Feb 2017 | BANGALORE

Trainer Darius Byramji leading Psychic Warrior (Imran Chisty Up), winner of The Bangalore Winter Million (Gr.3)

After the Sulaiman Attaollahi schooled Malawi made a smashing debut on Friday, the fashionably bred Psychic Warrior from trainer Darius Byramji’s yard made a fine impression beating a goodtype of youngster Turf Star in his maiden attempt in the Bangalore Winter Million on Saturday.  It appears that the youngsters in the Bangalore campus this year are better than the stock in Mumbai and after Tutankhamun ‘s victory in the Breeders Produce Stakes, it is clear that the Bangalore contingent will hold a whiphand in the Poonwalla Multi-Million, the richest event for juveniles.

Imran Chisty astride Psychic Warrior who had impressed most in the morning trials chose to hit the front in the sprint Million and though the favourite Turf Star was hot on his heels all through the journey, Chisty managed to keep the `Warrior’ going and another talented son of Multidimensional  brought cheer to the Darius camp. The Dominic-trained Habanero finished third ahead of Air Of Distinction who after three starts has now learned to produce a satisfactory gallop. Now that this  Ganapathy ward has learnt to produce and perform, it will not be long before he sheds his maiden status.

Another Darius ward, the topweighted  Integrated who was badly piloted by jockey Irvan Singh over a sprint trip last time out duly produced  his best in the hands of leading pro Srinath to take home the Chatrapathi Cup, the principal added attraction run over a distance of seven furlongs. With three victories from four starts this season, Integrated is in line for the Horse Of the season award along with Rare Rhythm and Jersey Wonder. The Dominic schooled Rafa in defeat was not disgraced and lives to fight another day.

Srinath earlier booted home Karod Pati from Samar Singh’s yard in  Tiptur Plate run over a mile. Karod Pati started the favourite before money came pouring in on the Arvind Ganapathy charge Winsomeness who ended the prime choice before the dozen runners came under the starter’s flag. While Karod Pati was favourably placed all through the mile long trip, Winsomeness was seen struggling to improve position in the rear and the moment the race came on a boil, it was clear that Srinath and Karod Pati would sail home. Dontworrymonday gained the runner-up berth while the less said about Winsomeness is better.

Imran Chisty who booted home Psychic Warrior earlier made every post a winning one on the Darius Byramji-trained  Jayadratha who donkey-licked the opposition in the upper division of the Gumbaz Plate run over a distance of seven furlongs. The Prasanna Kumar ward Girl With Pearl on the strength of her last success was backed to the exclusion of her 11 rivals but the `Girl’  failed to keep her date and only managed to finish a poor fourth, her stablemate Call Me Maybe too beating her for place money. Now that Jayadratha  has broken ice it will pay to again follow her next time out.

Back Of Beyond and J Gatsby floored the Jackpot pool hunters resulting in a sum of over six lakh carried forward. The former won the Melkote Plate in the hands of apprentice Anthony Raj pegging back the belated effort of the favourite Legacy Dream. Amazing Skill and Masada too were fancied strongly in this event by their connections but the two after raising hopes at the top of the straight only flattered to deceive. Fresh Star finished third ahead of Balian.

After Back Of Beyond, the friendless J Gatsby from Neil Darashah’s yard dropped the biggest bombshell winning the M G Kadali Memorial Plate in the hands of Mark. Massive Dynamics from Sandhu’s yard who was a joint favourite with Indian Brahmos in this event again needed to rest content with the runner-up berth while Chouhan lacked the enterprise and willingness to score on Indian Brahmos.

Second in demand at the betting ring, the Britto schooled What A Nice Man won the concluding event, the Gaganachukki Plate run over a sprint. Leading pro Suraj Narredu after failing on a couple of top fancied mounts finally struck it rich on the Britto ward, making every post a winning one. The moody Blazing Faith from Mohd Khan’s yard finished second ahead of Thundersquall while Amazing Desire caught the eye despite failing to make the frame.

The opening event was claimed by the on-money favourite Buscadero from trainer Gregory Sandhu’s yard. The winner is in good heart and is set to provide an encore.
