Trainer D Netto leading Rahuls Pet (Louis Beuzelin Up), winner of The H P Mistry Memorial Cup

The grey filly Rahul’s Pet (Green Coast-Singing Speed) that has hit a purple patch slammed the opposition in the highest class in the H.P.Mistry Memorial Cup to record her fourth win of the season from five starts. The only time the filly got beat was by Exclusive Wind and that defeat she avenged  with authority over the sprint. Vijays Joy and King Of Pop led the field from the start and Rahul’s Pet had settled nicely close to the rails in sixth. The filly made a quick move to improve position turning for home and making way between horses shot to the lead with a terrific acceleration and was clear from the rest within a fraction of a second. While jockey Louis Beuzelin had the luxury of looking back and easing up much before the winning post, King Of Pop rallied on in second ahead of Exclusive Wind. Vijay Sakhi just made it to the frame from Baashagar.

Trainer K.Satheesh had a rewarding day with a hat-trick of wins. Ice Cave started the process while Poll Promise and Limitation emerged victorious in the two divisions of the Artillary Cup. Limitation (Noverre-Hollow Ridge) that was sent off as the favourite in the higher division turned out to be a winner all through the straight. Jumping out smartly from the outermost draw Limitation moved towards the rails to settle behind the leader Green Striker. Passing the 600 metres board Limitation looked keen and surged past the leader. On the straight Limitation had broken away from the rest and was sighted a winner long way from home. Three horses finished together for the minor places with Apache Gap finishing second ahead of Grand Canyon and Agusta Bombshell.

Poll Promise (Noverre-Lightining Speed) that had won a seven furlongs race less than two weeks ago found no takers in the betting and was sent off at 10-1 in the lower division. Poll promise just managed to scrape through after getting to lead rounding the final turn. Improving gradually Poll Promise was on the haunches of the leader Penumatcha’s Pride and approaching the 500 metres forged ahead to take over the running. Inside the last 200 metres Kalinda came up with a strong challenge and at one stage it looked that she would go clear but the mare refused to pass Poll Promise and fell short by a shorthead at the finish. Bharat King and Penumatcha’s Pride finished third and fourth respectively.

Ice Cave (Selkirk-West With The Wind) went on a start to finish mission in the division II of the Oceanic Plate and held on from the late onslaught of Western Express. Ice Cave had shot to the lead as the gates opened and led into the straight. Passing the distance post Ice Cave was clear by two lengths and was looking comfortable when Western Express gained momentum inside the last 50 metres and came dangerously close. Wonder Star and Blaze Of Glory finished in that order in a close finish for the minor places.

M.Srinivas Reddy trained Sam The Brave (Lucifer Sam-Alandra) held on by a neck in the division III of the Wilkinson Plate, a 1200 metres sprint for maiden 3 year old horses. Sam The Brave in only on its second start was taken to the front by jockey Imran Chisty. Inside the last 200 metres Sam The Brave started to veer out under pressure and Escobar began to bridge the gap. Chisty tried his best to keep Sam The Brave going till the end and managed to hit the post a neck ahead of Escobar. Sweet Pistol and Golden Hope finished third and fourth respectively.

L.V.R.Deshmukh trained Mountain Of Light (Whatsthescript-Dan’s Delight) opened its account in the Southern Glory Plate. The race favourite War Cry was on a start to finish bid and was working hard to maintain the lead as they came into the final furlong. Mountain Of Light rallied along the rails and with the rider Akshay Kumar being relentless the filly picked up momentum in the last 100 metres and galloped with big strides to beat War Cry by half a length. Symbol Of Gold was getting stronger from the outside to finish a close third. Refulgent was withdrawn near the gates.

M.Sathyanarayana trained Pentagon (Varenar-Hi Fi) had an easy going in the opener of the day, the Greener Plate. Racing handily in third or fourth till approaching the final bend Pentagon improved position and surged to the lead on top of the straight and kept going till the finish. Bullish Approach headed past Vijay’s Harmony to take the second spot. Sea Change finished fourth. Upon A Star was a non-starter in the race.

The lesser fancied Garib Parwar (Epicentre-Sabakh) from Anupam Sharma’s stables surprised in the second division of the Ocenic Plate. Tracking the leader Bouncer from the early stages of the race Garib Parwar surged ahead passing the distance post and held on gamely from Racing Ikon’s late bid. The on-money favourite from Anupam’s stable Act In Time could only land up in third. Azazil finished fourth. In the third division of the race Arjun Anne trained Hunter’s Pride (Noverre-Pescara) was ridden to an impressive win by Akshay Kumar.
