M.Sathyanarayana trained Moondancer (Excellent Art-Pleasure Hunt) was ridden with great confidence by P.Trevor to lift the prestigious Alcock Arabian Million (Gr.3) in a gripping finish. As the field of eight settled down for the seven furlongs race Big Heart was taken to the front by Suraj Narredu. Moondancer settled well in second followed closely by Highly Acclaimed and the others. On top of the straight with two furlongs left Moondancer shifted gears from the outside and Y.S.Srinath also made his move on Highly Acclaimed between horses at the same juncture. The two of them went all out in the final furlong with both the top riders in full flow and Moondancer prevailed by a neck at the wire. That’s My Class edged out Star Gazer for the third place.

The Winter season came to a close for the purpose of tabulating the ‘Champions’ of the season despite an extra day of racing being framed for Thursday, the 2^nd of March. Trainer Anupam Sharma with a rich haul of 41 wins was adjudged as the leading trainer. Jockey Akshay Kumar topped the tally with 31 wins. B.R.Kumar with 17 wins was the leading apprentice claiming allowance. Germanicus was the Champion horse and Rahul’s Pet with a record of four wins from five starts was adjudged as the ‘horse of the season’. Dr.M.A.M. Ramaswamy Chettiar of Chettinad Charitable Trust with a total earning of Rupees 1.2 crores in stake money was the leading owner.

Trevor had a profitable day riding out four winners. He was earlier astride Anupam Sharma trained Exclusive Wind (Ravel-Calliope) in the supporting race of the day, the A.P.Race Horse Owners Association Trophy. Exclusive Wind raced in seventh position close to the rails while Kolors called the shots with Western Wind on its haunches. Entering the straight Kolors and Western Wind got to a fight to out-beat the other and Trevor brought Exclusive Wind along the rails to get behind the pair. Once Exclusive Wind was brought out of the pack Trevor pulled it out for a clear run and the gelding strode out with a flourish to settle scores. Stable mate Western Wind beat Kolors to be the runner-up. Alameda filled the frame.

Fayaz Shaikh trained Telangana Queen (Sedgefield Sasken) turned out to be the biggest upset of the day in the Patrons Cup. The favourite Valee Tiger after chasing the leader till the top of the straight, surged ahead and went for it. Telangana Queen racing in fifth till the last 400 metres made a bid from the outside and minimizing the lead with every stride beat Valee Tiger by a head at the finish. Angels Bay stayed on in third followed by Samba.

In another close finish of the day Jockey Neeraj Rawal rode K.V.Srinivas trained Top Contender (Top Class-Mizzna) to lift the Circar Cup. Top Contender chased the front running Silver Dollar till turning for home and surged ahead. George Cross rallied strongly along the inside and took over the running approaching the last 300 metres. Top Contender was ridden with renewed vigour and the gelding responded to snatch the victory at the wire. Princess Of Dreams and Euro Zone finished third and fourth respectively.

Trainer L.D’Silva sent out a double on the day, both at longer odds. His youngster Supremo (Green Coast-Supreme Discovery) a 15-1 shot opened its account in the Jangaon Plate, a mile race for maiden 3 years old. There was a rush to grab the lead by five horses as the gates opened and Supremo won the initial battle within the first furlong. Inside the last furlong City Of Sails began to close up the gap but Supremo kicked on to stay ahead by half a length at the finish. You Can I Can and Bayrd finished third and fourth respectively, in a close finish. The favourite China Millennium turned out to be a big disappointment finishing down the field.  Reunion was withdrawn before the start.

Camborne (Equitable-Ferrari) got to a galloping mood under apprentice Md. Ismail to beat the opposition by a comfortable margin in the division of the Wandering Angel Plate. Legacy Machine went on a start to finish bid over the 1100 metres dash and looked good coming into the last 200 metres but Camborne racing fourth all the way devoured ground from the outside and swept past the front runners. Legacy Machine held on in second from the late bid of Act In Time. Time Is Luck ended up fourth.

R.H.Sequeira’s Kireeti (Phoenix Tower-Starsinhereyes) whose last win was seventeen months ago galloped resolutely under Trevor to win the division II of the race. Rapidest set off in front and had a good lead approaching the distance marker. Kireeti and Dandy Girl started to charge from behind and the former stretched out to pull it off. Legend came with a fast finish from the outside to end up second. Dandy Girl and Rapidest finished third and fourth respectively.

Trevor had started the day with Anupam Sharma’s Sketch Of Beauty (Black Cash-Wisdom Queen) in the third division. The fancied Catherine set off on a start to finish bid and began to weaken heading past the distance marker. Sketch Of Beauty that was in chase all the way surged ahead and kicked on from the late surge of Picture Perfect. Hunter’s Pride finished third in front of Catherine. Tinsel Town was withdrawn before the race.

D.Netto trained Prep One (Gaswar-Alto Miss) justified the favouritism in the Rain Forest Plate, the concluding race of the day. Cash For Rank went to the lead right from the start and had a lead of over four lengths as they came into the straight. Passing the furlong post Cash For Rank started to shorten its strides and Prep One came up strongly to take over the running. Abracos moved menacingly towards Prep One towards the finish but Netto’s filly held on by half a length at the wire. Hal Chal and Roma Rouge finished third and fourth respectively.
