Trainer Imtiaz A Sait leading B Fifty Two (C S Jodha Up), winner of The A C Ardeshir Trophy (Gr.3)

Imtiaz Sait trainee B Fifty Two (Phoenix Tower – Baileys on Line, Manjri Stud) scored a gallant start to finish victory, settling his own pace and carrying the momentum right through to thwart the late bid from two more fancied runners Jack Frost and favourite Mrs Patmore.

Galloping fluently all the way from the start, B Fifty Two had enough in the reserves for the mile trip to emerge unscathed. The race came to a boil as late as in the final furlong. B Fifty Two had London fighting desperately to remain in contention but just couldn’t get past B Fifty Two. Mrs Patmore then started closing in on the leader and looked a tad rusty compared to her Guineas finish. She just could not find that extra gear to overhaul B Fifty Two, who galloped gamely all the way. Jack Frost was coming back in trip after winning over the 2400m and may have found the mile a bit sharp. He however, was the fastest moving in the closing stages and fell short by a stride. Full marks to B Fifty Two and Imtiaz Sait for setting up the race well and reaping the rewards for their good efforts. Jockey CS Jodha looked in complete command and neither Jack Frost nor Mrs Patmore looked a grave threat at any stage.

Jockey P Trevor crossed the 50 winners mark over the weekend adding two on Sunday to take his tally to 53 for the season so far. He started off with a bang, propelling Jager Bomb (Razeen – Grand Passion, Usha Stud) to a popular victory with a well-timed finish.

June fought on bravely after leading them all the way into the straight and Carefree had to work to get past June. In the final furlong, Carefree had barely surged ahead of June when Trevor set Jager Bomb alight and the Imtiaz ward responded with a game gallop to arrive at a good clip an sail past Carefree and June to win handsomely. Carefree did well to finish second. Smasher was the one to finish full of steam and he will now look ahead a lot more positively. He covered a lot of ground at a brisk pace and was easily the fastest in the final 100m. He was unlucky to have missed out on the place money and should improve for this run.

Trevor’s next success came astride Star Scholar (Ace – Scholastic Giant, Exhilaration Stud) but for this one he had to go to the stewards’ room. Master Sergeant had taken charge and was bounding away at a good pace towards the winning post when Star Scholar weaved his way between horses to make his final bid. Apprentice SA Amit failed to control Master Sergeant who veered out sharply at a crucial juncture causing Trevor to check his mount when the latter was in full flight going for the spoils. Master Sergeant won by a decent margin, nevertheless, he had caused Trevor’s Star Scholar a visible interference.

The Stewards were split in their verdict and the casting vote went in favour of Trevor and Star Scholar, who had originally finished second, was awarded the race after the objection by Trevor was upheld.

Trainer SS Shah’s Turf Dancer (Diffident – Encouragement, Yerawada Stud) won a thriller, with jockey DAshrath Singh timing his challenge precisely and wearing down a determined effort from Ladislaus. The battle between the two started soon after they turned for home, Ladislaus leading them into the straight. Arkahwah tried to challenger the leader, but was not quickening well enough. Turf Dancer moved up alongside Ladislaus and the pair matched strides taking the fight right to the wire. Turf Dancer prevailed by the shortest of margins to thrill his supporters, Dashrath dazzling in the saddle.

Gold Field (Sedgefield – Fort Knox, Jai Govind Stud) got able handling from jockey Joy Chinoy who was up to the task in guiding the maiden to achieve a memorable first win.

Ascension led them into the straight with Gold Field coming at her approaching the distance post. Ascension tried hard to retain her position but Gold Field was overbearing and zipped past Ascension with ease. Once in the lead, Joy was not going to let it slip away. He rode out hard and stayed clear of the rest. Queens Best warmed up late and arrived with a big gallop, but found Gold Field hard to down. Young Adhirajsingh Jodha trained the winner.

Philadelphia’s start to finish essay came a cropper when Beneficial (Varenar – Concept, Equus Stud) came with a late flourish to spoil his party. Philadelphia looked good until into the final furlong. Fabio put up a stiff fight, going all out and stubbornly sticking by Philadelphia. Beneficial joined this pair with less than a furlong to go and over powered them both to get a clear verdict.

Victorio shaped well coming into the straight, but lacked the punch to sustain. He squandered a big lead and faltered at the business end. Mizilla Gold (Gaswar – Mizillablack, Sehgal Stud) showed a lot of spark as SA Amit got her going in the latter half of the straight. The Waheed trained mare accelerated extremely well and covered a lot of ground to snatch the race with her late burst. Rosella and Cezanne both managed to get past Victorio to claim the minor placing.

For the professionals, trainer Imtiaz Sait saddled a double, while jockey P Trevor scored a double as well.
