It was another splendid performance by the Manjri Stud bred Tigris (Phoenix Tower-Sunderland Echo) in the Mysore Fillies Trial Stakes, a terms race for 3 year old Indian fillies on Wednesday at Mysore. The filly made the local lot proud by winning the seven furlongs event with a start to finish attempt.

Tigris got to the rails quickly after the start to lead the way followed by Nikka, Setaglow, Star Style and Amaris. Setaglow who was installed as the firm favourite was well up with the pace for the first half of the journey but started to feel the pressure approaching the final bend and lost position. On the straight young Dhebe was in full flow on Tigris and the filly galloped stylishly to get to the post well clear of the others. Amaris improved along the rails to be the runner-up while Setaglow ended up being a tame third ahead of Star Style.

Jockey Suraj Narredu who had five mounts in the day found success in only one of them. He piloted S.Rakesh trained Savannah Sound (Antonius Pius-Born Free / Pratap Stud) to a pillar to post victory in the Anekal Plate. Lucky Pineapple and Tremendous chased Savannah Sound all through the trip but the winner was far superior and the duo finished together in that order with just a ‘nose’ separating them. Naval Glory found the penalty for its two successive wins hard to digest and finished fourth.

J.Saravanan trained Galaxy Queen (Mull Of Kintyre-Premier Galaxy / Capricon Stud) who finished fourth in both the starts this season put in a determined effort under Sai Kiran to win the Evita Plate in a keenly contested race. Entering the straight Oceanic Storm was the first to take the initiative and grabbed the lead. Racing in about eighth till rounding for home, Galaxy Queen took the route from around the front runners and was up with a challenge inside the last 300 metres. Both Oceanic Storm and Galaxy Queen were ridden all out throughout the final furlong and the latter moved better to be half a length in front at the finish. Sufficient Proof also made a brave effort right through the last 200 metres but ended up third. Markus Sittikus finished fourth.    

Jockey Sai Kiran tasted success for the second time astride M.Bobby trained Catwalk Queen (Burden Of Proof-Cats Affair / Kunigal Stud) in the last race of the day, the Shivajinagar Plate. The 7 years old chestnut mare earned its second win from as many starts this season. Racing handily on about fourth close to the rails till approaching the final bend Catwalk Queen made a swift move to grab the lead on entering the straight.  While Catwalk Queen kicked on, Campeon beat Heaven And Earth for the second place. Counter Point filled the frame. Admiral Act was withdrawn after being fractious inside the stalls.

Trainer M.Bobby’s ward Dreamliner (Diffident-Dreaming / Poona Stud) pulled out a surprise in the Bugle Rock Plate. The 8 years old gelding had won only once when it had shifted base from western India over 2 ½ years ago and had no recent form as per records to go by. Dreamliner rushed to the front as the gates opened and settled down to lead the pack. Inside the last 300 metres Dreamliner kept kicking on and was well ahead even as the race time favourite Malkia made a futile bid. Catchy Charger and Golden Cruise filled the frame in that order.

Michael Eshwer trained Gusty Wind (Rebuttal-Chilly Wind / Mebajeona Stud) tackled the small field of six runners confidently in the Whitefield Plate. Gusty Wind was the smartest out of the gates and got to the front but settled in second when Imitation Game after a slightly sluggish start picked up momentum and passed the field to lead. Passing the halfway stage Imitation Game had gone ahead by a distance but Gusty Wind was still held unperturbed in second. Turning for home Imitation Game was out of gas as expected and Gusty Wind surged past effortlessly and skipped away by almost a distance. Absolute Brave just managed to edge out Imitation Game by a whisker for the second place. Further behind was Sans Frontieres in fourth.

Trainer Prashanth Pawar saddled his first winner after his come-back through Erebus (Big Bad Bob-Hairstyle / Nanoli Stud) in the Mudigere Plate. Erebus that went into the race as a maiden raced in about third close to the rails while Al Dahma as is its habit set the ball rolling in front. Inside the last 300 metres the favourite Deltin ridden by Suraj Narredu surged ahead to take over the running from Al Dahma. Erebus was pulled on the outside for a clear run and the filly with a big gallop swooped down on Deltin and spared a length at the finish. Centurio beat Al Dahma by a nose for the third place.
