The 6 years old Fink (Phoenix Tower-Fleurissimo / Manjri Stud) regained its lost form to lift the S.V.Subramaniam Memorial Cup that featured the day’s card of seven races at Mysore. Trainer Michael Eshwer deserves to be complimented for getting Fink back into ‘Pink’ of condition although the colt turned out to be the ‘Doosra’ from the stable in the race. Excellerate enjoyed greater support to be the firm favourite for the sprint event.

Fink got off to a good start and settled to lead the field close to the rails with Moroccan giving company from the outside. Entering the straight Fink still enjoyed the lead and Excellerate joined up from the outside and at one stage it looked like the favourite had an upper hand but young Rayan Ahmed who has been enjoying great success in recent weeks started to ride out Fink and the son of Phoenix Tower responded readily to regain the lead and wrap it off. Lucky Pineapple did well to finish third along the rails followed by Storming Home.

At the end of the fourth leg in the Jackpot pool there were 54 successful tickets but none could solve the five leg puzzle as rank outsider Chicago (Alnasr Alwasheek-Chiquitita / Kunigal Stud) came from nowhere to floor the field. Diamond Attraction went on a start to finish bid followed closely by Dare The Don. Chicago braced the rear in second last position. Inside the last 300 metres Dare The Don had assumed command but Chicago started to move up with giant strides when pulled out for a clear path and flew past all of them to land the spoils. Class Above followed the winner throughout the last furlong to finish second. Tobin and Catharsis were non-starters.

Jockey Trevor’s visit to Mysore had aroused huge enthusiasm among the rail-birds and all his three mounts found strong support in the betting but he was successful only on trainer Feroz Khan’s youngster Power Of God (Arazan-Angelfire) in the race for 3 year old maiden horses, the Shuntikoppa Plate. The filly was taken to the front as the gates opened and leading all the way carried on till the finish. Star Gunns initially came under pressure when asked to quicken mid-way up the straight but by the time she raised a gallop the race was in the safe keeping of Power Of God. Amazing Safari and Silvery Grey finished third and fourth respectively.

Ranjeet Shinde trained Alecia (Win Legend-Whispered Gossip / Ponderosa Stud) utilized the 4 kilograms advantage of apprentice Anthony Raj to go on a start to finish bid in the ‘no whip’ race, the Doddaballapura Plate and emerge victorious. King Smile looked to be closing up towards the finish but could only manage to end up second. Kir Royale finished on third followed by Reach The Stars. Passing Falcrum was withdrawn near the gates.  

Pratap Kamath trained Point (Admiralofthefleet-Shenandoah / Pratap Stud) scored a maiden win in the Itarsi Plate. As the 14 runners jumped out for the six furlongs sprint, Tchibouela came rushing from the outermost draw and started to lead the pack. On entering the straight Tchibouela came in first almost four lengths ahead of Starstruck. As they neared the last 150 metres the leader looked to be running out of steam and it was Point ridden by S.G.Prasad that swung into action and shot ahead. In a cluster for the minor places Starstruck held on from Triple Crown and Jolfa. 

Jockey Anil Baandal made best use of the chance ride he got on Micron Yaacow (Arabian Gulf-Lyrical Star / Manjri Stud).  Ranjeet Shinde’s trainee was taken to the front from the innermost draw and leding all the way kicked on to win the division I of the Kanchanaganga Plate. Go Man Go and Silver Wood finished second and third respectively while Ice Weapon after chasing the winner all through the straight fell back to fourth.

C.D.Monnappa trained As Always (Brave Act-Somerset West / Kunigal Stud) stunned the favourite Precious Script in the lower division. Entering the straight Precious Script took charge from Heidrun while As Always still braced the rear. Inside the last furlong Precious Script still looked good but As Always came charging from way behind and sped past in the closing stages to get its neck in front at the post. Beautiful Revenge and Coffee Time filled the frame in that order.
