R.Karthik schooled Magasthenes (Varenar-Gold Bar / Equus Stud) with all its ‘Ooty fitness’ scored a thumping victory in the Mysore Colts Trial Stakes, a Terms race for 3 year old colts, that featured the day’s proceedings on Tuesday. Lord Buckingham set the ball rolling followed by Admiral Act, Apalachee, Star Atrium, Megasthenes, Autocratic, Ascendent and Kickback tailed off last. As they approached the final bend jockey S.John made a quick move on Megasthenes from around the front runners and stormed into the lead on the straight. While Megasthenes built up a commanding lead in the final furlong the fancied lot were left struggling behind. Ascendent covered ground from the wide outside to take the second spot ahead of Lord Buckengham. Megasthenes is expected to run next in the Mysore Million at the end of the season and will in all probability stay on for the Guineas. The favourite Autocratic ended up a tame fourth. Deodar was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.   

John scored in the very next race piloting S.Rakesh’s Savannah Sound (Autonomous Pius-Born Free / Pratap Stud) to a second successive win in the Paschimavahini Plate. The strongly fancied Poet set off in the lead followed by Sanannah Sound, Storming Home and the rest. Passing the 1200 metres jockey Dhebe on Poet found his saddle to be shifting and as a precautionary measure to avoid being dislodged took off his legs from the stirrups. Poet was still in front on entering the straight with the rider literarily sitting on the saddle but was soon passed by Savannah Sound. Markus Sittikus started to charge down from the last position but Savannah Sound managed to hit the winning post first by half a length. Castle king took the third spot in front of Poet.  

Trainer S.Rakesh had scored earlier through Deltin (Chevalier-Delta’s Glory / Ruia Stud) in the Aristocrat Plate in a pulsating finish. Jersey Bride went on a start to finish bid and had a lead of over three lengths as they moved into the final furlong. Deltin was the only one trying to bridge the gap while the rest were in futile chase. Getting closer with every stride Deltin got faster in the closing stages to get the nod on the last stride. The angle at the post is so deceptive at Mysore that the rider of Jersey Bride was confident of having got there first and was waiting to be led in by the trainer even as Deltin started to walk back towards the unsaddling enclosure. Dr.Scully finished third followed by Chase The Ace who was once again at the receiving end of some poor handling. 

Apprentice R.Rayan Ahmed who is riding with confidence and success of late scored again on P.C.Tejaswi trained Aliboxer (Princely Heir-Miss Pukka / Dashmesh Stud) in the In The Spotlight Plate. Aliboxer had finished a suggestive second in its last run four weeks ago and proved to be a good one over the six furlongs sprint. Racing in fifth till rounding for home Aliboxer surged ahead of the leader Nikka and moved away. Bandito began the chase inside the last furlong but had to settle for the runner-up berth. Abderus necked out Nikka for the third place.

A good touch by the connections of Tejaswi’s stable on Just By Chance Placerville-Age Of Fable / Poona Stud) paid dividends in the Konark Plate. Jumping out from the outermost draw Just By Chance raced in about sixth or seventh, travelling around the field all the way. On entering the straight Castlebar and Veni Vedi Vici came in together but were soon passed by the top two fancies Class Above and Just By Chance. Tejaswi’s 7 year old travelled better and pulled it off by a good two lengths from Class Above. Sufficient Proof and Anvill Star finished third and fourth respectively.

C.Girinath trained Zagato (Kheleyf-Better Off Red / Broadacres Stud) did well to pull it off from the much younger Clouds in the opener of the day, the Varanasi Plate. The overwhelming favourite Conundrum was withdrawn near the starting gates and it was left for the remaining six to bid for the nine furlongs trip. Clouds took charge from Green Meadow on top of the straight and Zagato slipped in through the shortest way. The two battled the final furlong and Zagato stayed ahead by a ‘head’ at the finish. Trust Me Boy and Go Man Go filled the frame in that order.

Vishal Yadav trained Vroom Vroom (Chinese Whisper-Hereafter / Paramvir Stud) that had seen the winning post only once in 40 starts pulled off the biggest upset in the Ashwajaya Plate. Racing in about seventh all the way till the top of the straight Vroom Vroom started to tear down the final stretch from the wide outside and drew clear. Honey Wen Money rallied on in second with Ice Sprint and Flaming Spear filled the frame in that order.
