Trainer Sk Waseem Ahmed leading Green Image (A A Vikrant Up), winner of The Golden Dagger Plate

Sk Waseem Ahmed trained Green Image (Sussex-Citi Star) that had won a six furlongs sprint about eleven days ago reproduced that winning gallop over the extended trip of seven furlongs in the Golden Dagger Plate. The trainer had opted to claim an allowance (2.5 kilos) through apprentice A A Vikrant while trying to reduce the burden of the five points penalty incurred for the earlier win. Astra went ahead to lead the field as the gates opened and Green Image settled nicely in second. Astra was relentless till into the last 400 metres but the persistence of Vikrant got the bay mare to head past the leader. Khoshgel and Mighty Swing raised a gallop in the last 100 metres but Green Image was safely home and they had to settle for the minor places in that order. Astra ended up fourth.

Mahateji (Multidimensional-Blue Sky) that won the debut run in winter continued the winning form while winning the Regency Cup. Trainer Srinivas Reddy’s filly settled in about fifth or sixth close to the rails. Finding Supremo and Eternal Angel fighting amongst themselves along the inner path Mahateji was pulled out for a clear run and the filly sped past the front runners and drew clear despite drifting out in the closing stages. Eternal Angel and Supremo finished second and third respectively in a close finish and the well fancied Prince Caspian joined them in fourth.

Anupam Sharma trained Amazing Venus (Green Coast-Look At Venus) scored a thrilling win in the Flowersoftheforest Trophy. The apprentice B R Kumar was fined for last time for ‘inept handling’ while finishing third but he made sure that he rode out with full vigour till the winning post. Amazing Venus rushed to the front as the gates opened and had a useful lead of over two lengths as they came into the final furlong. Ragas Ajalias were in chase but were not making much impression. Royal Dynamite started to devour ground from way behind and the lead was diminishing at a fast pace but the grey colt was unlucky once again as he missed it by a ‘head’. Ragas Ajalias and King David filled the frame in that order.

L.V.R. Deshmukh’s Arc Of History (Excellent Art-Raptures) justified the favouritism in the division I of the Set Alight Plate. Veteran jockey R.J.Hannam took the filly to the front as the gates opened and settled well in front. With a furlong left from the post Arc Of History started to draw away from the rest and scored a decisive victory even as Takisha rallied on in second. Cymbal and Lord Gift finished third and fourth respectively.

M.Sathyanarayana schooled Desert Moon (Rebuttal-Moonlit Mistress) opened its account in the lower division beating the favourite Free Eagle. Desert Moon settled nicely in third close to the rails while Free Eagle set out on a start to finish bid. Inside the last 400 metres Desert Moon began to make a bid from the outside. Both Free Eagle and Desert Moon started to drift out in the final furlong under pressure and the latter surged ahead when the rider Mukesh Kumar shifted the whip to the left and gave a few hard cracks. New State was a faraway third ahead of Plain Jane.

Apprentice Rafique Sk scored a double, winning two divisions of the Vijays Conquer Plate. He was astride L.V.R.Deshmukh’s Cash For Rank (Varenar-Deeleecious) in the division I. Cash For Rank, a winner over six furlongs in the last outing was installed as the on-money favourite for the shorter sprint. Prep One showed some early speed to hit the front and Cash For Rank got on its haunches within the first furlong. Once on the straight Cash For Rank was alighted to the task and the 5 years old bay colt responded readily to grab the lead and stretch out well. Prep One held on to the second place from the late finishing Romantic Fire. Sefarina rallied on in fourth.

Rafique scored a stunning upset with K.S.V.Prasad Raju’s Golden Xanthus (Sharp Attack-Secret Wish) in the division III, the opener of the day. Yes Baby went on a start to finish bid and brought the pack into view on the straight. Hunter’s Pride and Racing Ikon, the two fancied runners started to gain ground inside the last 200 metres and Golden Xanthus who was at the back of the field in about sixth started to gain speed when pulled on the extreme outside and flashed past to wrap it up by three parts of a length. Hunter’s Pride and Racing Ikon finished behind the winner in that order in a close finish. Pretty Star ended up fourth.

Jockey Mukesh Kumar rode his double through Anant a Vatsalya’s Abracos (Samhoon-Sahebzadi) in the division II of the Vijays Conquer Plate. The 5 years old mare got to a splendid gallop mid-way up the straight and flashed past the front runners to win by a length. Bouncer finished second followed by Beauty Flash and Wonder Star.
