By Ikram Khan | 04 Aug 2017 | BANGALORE

Mr K N Dhunjibhoy, Mr Vispi R Patel & trainer S S Attaollahi leading Serjeant At Arms (A Sandesh Up), winner of The Karnataka Mile Championship Cup (Gr.2)

We told you earlier that the Sulaiman Attaollahi-trained Serjeant At Arms is the big boss at this centre and he proved us right maintaining his winning streak in resplendent style in the  Karnataka Mile Championship  the plum event on Sunday. Serjeant At Arms, who has just lost twice in his illustrious career has never been headed at his parent-centre, Bengaluru.

Sandesh who has partnered this star performer in most of his classic efforts again had it easy, just guiding the top gun all through the mile long trip without needing to unduly extend the champion while romping home in a smart time of 1:35.68 seconds. The Dhunjibhoy owned star has proved that he is the best miler on the circuit and that the handicapping and weights don’t matter and make no difference.

The Prithviraj camp fancied Pearl City strongly in the  K N Chennabasappa Memorial Cup. The winner tuned to the minute with the event in view looked outstanding in the paddock parade and all Prashanth Dhebe did was push Pearl City ahead at the top of the straight to seal the issue. Queen Credible finished on purposefully at end but found the Prithviraj ward too good at end.Amazing Redd who set the pace stayed on take the third spot.

A facile last start winner, Fair Warning from Arjun Mangalorkar’s yard  looked set to provide an encore in the Lt Col Gaunt Memorial Cup, However, Louisiana, another impressive winner from his last essay garnered maximum support. The public choice led from the start before  Fair Warning after a brief duel assumed command and put the issue beyond doubt in the final furlong. Rum Runner did well to finish second ahead of Miniver Rose while Louisiana finished in the ruck.

Irfan Ghatala-trained Donna Rosa who caught the eye in her last start with the benefit of that race gallop came out tops in the V Venugopal Naidu Memorial Trophy. After Eye Sign expended his energy running freely in front, Panama took charge but only to find Donna Rosa proving too superior at end, cantering home by a widening margin of six lengths from Panama. Hunters Moon was third. Favourite Highland Wind was never in the hunt and struggled to finish fourth.

The name change of Thundersquall as Stanley may not have caught many punters` fancy but the progeny of Arazan who had let down large following each time the connections fancied him to strike, finally broke the ice under the care of Azhar Ali in the Assure Girl Plate.  Stanley led all the way and gallantly held off the challenge of the well backed Cherie Amour.

Trevor who has been struggling for winners of late, had a lone winner through Love For Life who held off the challenge of Bold Runner, Tic Tac Toe and Incitatus to land the spoils for trainer Satish Narredu in the Sha Tin Plate.

Fiorenzo from Irfan Ghatala ‘s yard beat the favourite Find in a pulse-pounding thriller in the Adrian Plate. Freestyle who led all the way weakened in the final furlong to finish third.
