Caprisca and Clymene, two hot favourites, scored impressive wins on a day when form held good and fancied horses obliged in most races. Caprisca, trained by Imtiaz Sait, justified the strong support he received and unleashed a powerful finish to clinch the August Handicap in a stylish manner.

We Break The Rules settled to lead the field with Glyndebourne close behind, Caprisca who was not in the best of positions early on, made steady progress past 800 to be in striking position at the turn.

We Break the Rules was soon collared by Glyndebourne but before the latter could enjoy his lead, Caprisca (Steinbeck – Xisca, Usha Stud) arrived with a lively run to stride past the duo. Jockey P Trevor had to only hand a couple of reminders at the entrance of the homestretch and Caprisca responded with a fluent gallop at the business end to run away from Glyndebourne to win with a measure of comfort. Considering he was carrying a heavy 61 kilos, Caprisca’s victory certainly laudable and she is on her way to a promising career. Glyndebourne looked a tad gross in the paddock yet did well to end a fighting second. This run will certainly strip him fitter and is the one to note.

Clymene (Western Aristocrat – Magdalena, Nanoli Stud) was thought of highly on the strength of his pedigree and preparation and was offered at 8/10 in the betting ring. She looked the part in the paddock as did Lady Almeda and Outstanding. On the turf, she set herself apart from her rivals with a clean start to finish run and none could catch up with the Faisal Abbas trained filly.

Clymene flew out of the gates and grabbed the lead with Lady Almeda improving to second and settling just ahead of True Grit and Outstanding. Clymene quickened so well in the straight that Lady Almeda and company were never in the hunt. Jockey Sandesh eased Clymene into a fine rhythm and won on tight reins, clocking a fast timing of just over 58 seconds for the five furlong scurry. Clymene proved far too superior to the bunch and should add to her impressive debut win.

Brabourne (Phoenix Tower – Balimaya, Manjri Stud) booted home the weight advantage to score a facile win leading them all the way home. Young Prashant Dhebe settled the Imtiaz Sait trained filly to dictate the terms at his own pace and keeping a firm grip on the lead all the while. Spiridon moved to second chasing the leader all through. Chizzler was shoddy at the start and Sandesh improved steadily to be in the bunch at the turn.

Into the straight, Brabourne stepped up the pace and steered clear of the rest stretching away from her rivals with each stride. She won extremely well and encountered no challenge.  Spiridon kicked on to take the runner-up spot while Chizzler ended a disappointing third. It was later announced that Chizzler returned sore.

Jockey Neeraj Rawal continued on his sublime form with another good double on the day. He started his day on a winning note astride Katrak-trained Blavatsky (Steinbeck – Psychic Light, Usha Stud) in the day’s opener. It looked anybody’s race in the straight when Commandperformance, Blavatsky and Alfonso were heading for a three-way finish. Blavatsky gained the upper hand past the distance post but had Alfonso offering a grave challenge. There was a bit of jostling too when Commandperformance shifted out on to Blavatsky who in turn brushed with Alphonso, however, Blavatsky galloped on to ward off Alfonso by a neck. Dashrath Singh did try to get the race in the Stewards’ room, but his objection was overruled in no time.

Neeraj then partnered trainer Hosidar Daji’s ward Simon Says (Ikhtyar – Venus Ariin, Nanoli Stud), the highest priced winner of the day. Gloriosus and Lord Grantham were up in front until the turn. While Lord Grantham progressed to take the lead once into the straight, Gloriosus bowed out of contention and finished in the rut. Simon Says picked up momentum and soon challenged Lord Grantham. Simon Says finished on forcefully to draw away from Lord Grantham to win convincingly.

Dashrath Singh piloted Lilibeth (Chevalier – Girl From Ascot, Ruia Stud) to a fighting win coming from behind to knock Silk Baby out in last couple of strides. Silk Baby looked good to go all the way midway in the straight when she had a decent lead over the rest. Lilibeth warmed up nicely and was covering ground briskly past the distance post. She had still some gap to cover and with Silk Baby going well, the final 100 meters got thrilling. Lilibeth timed her run to perfection and picked up good speed to hand it across to the long time leader and pick up her maiden victory in her fourth start.

Cracklin’ Rosie (Phoenix Tower – Noloom, Manjri Stud) produced a powerful finish to score a well fought win in the concluding race of the day. Marvel snatched the lead coming into the straight but soon had a bunch of horses snapping at her tail. Cracklin’ Rosie wove her way through a packed lot to grab the lead in the final furlong. Rapid Girl made her move from the outside and was seen covering ground at a good clip. However, Cracklin’ Rosie kicked on relentlessly to survive the late assault from Rapid Girl. Marvel held on narrowly to ward off Divine Solitaire for place money.

For the professionals, trainers Imtiaz Sait and Faisal Abbas saddled a double each; jockey Neeraj Rawal scored a double as well.
