Suleiman S Attaollahi trained Booker Jones (Kingda Ka- Gia cosa / Nanoli Stud) pulled off a gallant victory in the prestigious Nizam’s Gold Cup – Gr.2 at Hyderabad on Monday. Jockey Trevor was at his best while squeezing out the extra from ‘Jones’s’ tank in the 2000 metres trip. Booker Jones settled well in front right from the word go and was followed by Western Wind, Mahathi, Germanicus, Aika Aika Aika and Azzuro and the order remained the same even as they approached the final bend. Approaching the last furlong Aika Aika Aika was getting stronger from the wide outside and looked to be the only challenger with a chance as the favourite Germanicus was not responding to the rider’s call. Trevor was aware of the threat from the rear and with a brilliant piece of riding got the gelding to pull off the extra from the reserves to stay clear. Aika Aika Aika, Germanicus and Western Wind filled the frame in that order in a photo finish.

The sensation from Laxman Singh’s stables, Chase Your Dreams (Excellent Art-Star Goddess) remained unbeaten with a fifth straight win in the Basalat Jah Memorial Cup. Sent off at 10-9 ON for the sprint the bay colt jumped out smartly from gate one and headed to lead the pack. Entering the straight jockey A. Sandesh was in total control of Chase Your Dreams and the youngster scored yet another impressive victory. Preciosa beat the rest followed by Dream Vision and Without Makeup.

Trevor had a good day piloting four winners including the plum of the day. He had piloted the winners in the first three races of the day. Trevor literally caught the rider of on-money favourite Takisha napping in the opener of the day, the division I of the Cape Knight Plate. Takisha was on a start to finish bid and was enjoying a commanding lead as they moved into the last furlong of the race. Trevor continued to ride out New State despite the long lead and the filly responded readily to bridge the gap and in a thrilling finish denied the favourite a win by a short-head. Soaring Sensex also made up ground to finish a close third. Aerofil finished fourth many lengths adrift.

Trevor was made to work to get L.D’Silva trained Dancing Leaf (Arazan-Dancing Image) to the winning post in the division I of the K. Bhagvan Das Memorial Cup. Seven Colours set off in front from the start and Dancing Leaf was quick to join the bunch in third from the widest draw. Entering the straight Trevor got down to work and surging past the leader kept up the tempo to stay clear of Breezeofthesouth, Sweet March and Pentagon, all of whom finished together for the minor places in that order.

It was a much easier win for the boy in form on Sk Waseem Ahmed trained News O’Star (Surfrider-Outtostealthescene) in the lower division of the Cape Knight Plate. The filly joined Royal Green quickly as the field settled for the 5 ½ furlongs scurry and once on the straight surged ahead effortlessly and extended the lead. Royal Green held on in the second place from Breaking News and Shivalik Class who came up fast towards the end.

R.H.Sequeira trained Ans Ans Ans (Win Legend-Clairet) bounced back to winning ways in the division II of the K. Bhagvan Das Memorial Cup. Racing in about sixth all the way till turning for home Ans Ans Ans broke out of the pack and sped away for an impressive win. Scooby Dooby Doo rallied on in second and further behind were Legend and Khoshgel for the minor places.

The biggest upset of the day came through K.S.V.Prasad Raju’s Ruby’s Gift (Ontario-Ruby Queen) in the division I of the Byerly Brigade Cup. The 4 years old filly with no recent form was engaged in a duel with another long-shot Silver Dollar and spared a neck at the wire. Golden Xanthus and Sher Afgan finished third and fourth respectively.

Trainer K.Satheesh was the only trainer to score a double on the day. Surprise Party (Noverre-Bridgeofsighs) ridden by Nakhat Singh made every post a winning one in the lower division. The well fancied Princess Of Dreams was on a hard chase in the final 200 metres but Surprise Party managed to keep her at bay by three parts of a length. Citi Colors and Abracos filled the frame in that order.

Space Ship (Strategic Prince-Zvonareave) win the Subramanya Bharti Plate and survived an objection by the runner-up in the race. Chasing the leader Wild Heart till the top of the straight Space Ship slipped into the lead. The filly started to drift out inside the last 150 metres and Penthesilea shifted towards the inside. The rider of Penthesilea raised an objection citing interference and that was overruled by the stewards after reviewing the race. Super Grey finished a close third followed by Ikigai.
