Trainer Laxman Singh leading Zelus (Y S Srinath Up), winner of The Police Trophy

Laxman Singh trained Zelus (Kingda Ka-Brind) was given a perfect ride by leading pro Y.S. Srinath to lift the Police Trophy that featured Sunday’s small card of six races at Hyderabad. The bay colt shot to the lead as the gates opened and settled nicely in second when Univision showed some early speed to get to the front. Zelus moved closer to the leader on entering the straight and soon stormed ahead. Hope Is Eternal tried hard to bridge the gap but Zelus kicked on easily to score a maiden win. Exclusice Striker and City Of Sails filled the frame in that order.

Apprentice Md. Ismail had a profitable day, winning half of the day’s card. Palisades Park, Leading Legend and Golden Image were the winners he was up on. The first and the last named were from trainer L.D’Silva’s stables and the other from D.Netto’s yard. Leading Legend (Multidimensional-Amstel) scored its second successive win in the P.G. Reddy Memorial Cup, a ‘no whip race’ over seven furlongs. The gelding jumped out smartly from an outward draw and started to track Perfection. Leading Legend moved up from around the leader approaching the final bend and as they came into the last 400 metres, stretched out effortlessly to justify the favouritism. Perfection was ridden hard to stay in second from Mahathi and Kalinda.

Palisades Park (Phoenix Tower-Sunshiner / Manjri Stud), sent off as an on-money favourite for the division I of the Anantagiri Plate had it easy in the 1100 metres sprint. Positioned nicely behind the early leader Composure, Palisades Park took charge mid-way up the straight and drew clear. Manoveg charged in late to beat Composure for the second place. Khan Sahib finished further behind in fourth.

Golden Image (Green Coast-Above The Line) scored a convincing victory in the division I of the Coral Gables Plate. The 4 years old raced in sixth position till straightening up for the final run. Inside the last 400 metres New Comer was the first to take the initiative and galloped strongly to head past the fighting duo in front, War Cry and Beauty Flash. Golden Image also picked up speed from the wide outside and with a good turn of foot sped past to win easily. My Choice was third further away. Whisper was a non-starter in the race.

Ananta Vatsalya trained Ikigai (Royal Gladiator-Pupa Fiorini) stormed home in the lower division to register a ‘first’ win on the track. The filly had 30 starts going into the race and the solitary win against her name was earned when the original winner Negress Pearl was disqualified for coming positive in post race drug test last winter. Racing in about fifth till rounding the final bend, the filly started to gain ground when shown the daylight from the outside and inspite of veering out of the straight course won comfortably. Take A Bow took the second spot ahead of Yet Another and Forever Bullish.

K.Satheesh trained Ice Cave (Selkirk-West With The Wind) won the lower division of the Anantagiri Plate. As the field of eight approached the final furlong Pixie Girl was hard at work to stay in the lead. Darakshan Setarah slipped in through the rails ro challenge and Ice Cave was getting stronger from the outside. Ice Cave travelled the better to wrap it off by half a length from Darakshan Setarah. Cash Landing managed to beat Pixie Girl for the third place.
