Pesi Shroff trained Mathaiyus (Multidimentional-Yana / Usha Stud) scored an overwhelming victory in the prestigious President Of India Gold Cup (Gr.1) on Sunday at Malakpet , Hyderabad. The bay gelding shared the favouritism with arch rival Captain Morgan while the other two runners in the fray were at odds for the asking.

It eventually turned out to be a three horse race as Booker Jones reared up as the gates opened and jumped out rider less. Jockey A. Sandesh took off with Mathaiyus in the lead and opened up a big leeway with Western Wind and Captain Morgan in tow. Passing the 1400 metres Mathaiyus was given a breather and after a furlong stepped up the pace even as Captain Morgan moved into second. Once on the straight Mathaiyus continued to kick on relentlessly and passed the winning post stopping the clock at 2 minutes 30.94 seconds which fractionally bettered the record that was held by Becket for the last seven years. Captain Morgan was under pressure when pressed for an effort on the straight and rallied on in second 5 ½ lengths behind the winner.

Anupam Sharma trained Ashwa Raftar (Sedgefield-Slam Strike / Jai Govind Stud) edged out the overwhelming favourite in the Soli And Gool Poonawalla Memorial Gold Cup.Both the runners were well off the pace that was set by Mr. Baahubali and Vijays Joy. Approaching the last 300 metres Rahul’s Pet sneaked through horses and Ashwa Raftar moved up from the outside. The two fought out the last furlong and Ashwa Raftar ridden by B.R. Kumar stretched its neck at the finish. Double Charter was a faraway third.

In a grand stand finish Arjun Anne trained Destined Dynamite (Charmo-Desert Dynamite) pulled it off in the Golconda Trophy to make it a third win on the trot. Breezeofthesouth went on a start to finish bid with That’s My Class in pursuit. Destined Dynamite was a little further behind in third. Inside the last 200 metres Breezeofthesouth continued to hold the advantage and was looking good when Destined Dynamite ridden by Mukesh Kumar came flying down the stretch to stop the ‘Breeze’ on the post. That’s My Class and Like Wise finished third and fourth respectively.

Jockey Mukesh Kumar had earlier in the day piloted Anupam Sharma’s All The Best (Surfrider-Spica) to a maiden win in the division II of the Deccan Prince Plate. In a ‘no whip race’ over five furlongs the favourite Shivalik Class set off on a start to finish bid. All The Best racing a handy fourth moved alongside the leader with a furlong left and after a keen tussle surged ahead by quarter of a length. Halo’s Princess and Snow Castle filled the frame in that order.

Jockey S.S.Tanwar rode out Laxman Singh trained Vijay’s Empire (Princely Heir-Royal Tartan) to lift the Half A Crown Cup in an absolving finish. Dhool Ka Phool set off in from from the start followed closely by Vijay’s Empire and Sher Afgan. Rounding the final bend the gap along the inner fence opened up and Tanwar was quick to sneak through it with Vijay’s Empire. Euro Zone started to get closer inside the last 100 metres but fell short by a short-head at the finish. Dhool Ka Phool stayed on in third from White Gold.

M.Sathyanarayana trained Old Faithful (Oath-Rainbow Fog) that had run into a suggestive second in its last start scored a maiden win in the division I of the Madanna Plate. Old Faithful went on a start to finish bid over the 1400 metres trip and had a useful lead of over three lengths coming into the last 300 metres. Boca Grande and Amaravathi charged towards the leader in the closing stages but Old Faithful was safely home by half a length.

Trainer L.D’Silva scored a double through Somerset and Monte Rosa, both registering their maiden win. Monte Rosa (Chinese Whisper-Husun) that had not won a race in 21 starts finally came good in the division II of the Madanna Plate. Ice Mummy was in front right from the start and Monte Rosa chased at striking distance. The fight between the two started right from the top of the straight and Monte Rosa prevailed by three parts of a length at the finish. San Vinto and Touch Of Gold finished third and fourth respectively.

Somerset (Steinbeck-Royal Confidence) carrying the top weight of 62 kilograms on its back slammed the opposition by a lengthening margin. Zensational and Jem Star were fighting out as they came into the last 200 metres and Somerset picked up speed and shot through to win easily. Zensational stayed on in second ahead of Jem Star and Vijay’s Harmony.
