Trainer Darius Byramji leading La Dona (Y S Srinath Up), winner of The M K Srinivas Memorial Trophy

Darius Byramji trained La Dona (Multidimensional-Forest Treasure / Usha Stud) found her winning shoes back in Mysore in the M.K. Srinivas Memorial Trophy. The last time the filly had seen the winning post was on this very day a year ago in the 1000 Guineas. The task for the filly became that much easier after the overwhelming favourite I the race Korol was withdrawn on veterinary grounds near the gates.

La Dona was off to a bit of sluggish start but was brushed up soon to move up to be about fourth with the Chennai based filly Queen Of Clubs setting off on a start to finish bid. Once on the straight La Dona was asked to quicken by Y.S. Srinath and the filly responded readily to spurt away from the field. Bandito and Reanna charged in late to take the second and third spot respectively from Queen Of Clubs.

Y.S.Srinath had a profitable day scoring a hat trick, winning both the divisions of the M.B. Appaya Memorial Trophy. Sriram Komandur trained Gandharva (Abbeyside-Flight To Glory / Dashmesh Stud) opened its account in the higher division. Hardi’s Folly went to the lead early in the race and was staying stubbornly ahead approaching the final furlong. Gandharva started to get stronger with Srinath’s hard riding from the outside and Happy Dancing looked for a run between the two. Gandharva travelled the best of the three to score from Happy Dancing placing second ahead of Haedi’s Folly. The rider of Happy Dancing lodged an objection against the winner for interference but the Stewards overruled it and the order remained unaltered. Sedulus and Storm Ahead were non-starters in the race.

S.Ganapathy trained Great Tribute (Rio De La Plata-Ask For Love / Hazara Stud) was the most impressive winner of the day in the lower division. The bay colt raced a handy fourth behind I Smile Outrider and Master Of War till rounding for home. Making way between horses Great Tribute stormed ahead from Outrider and won impressively. Indian Brahmos warmed up late to finish third followed by So Mi Dar. The stirrup iron of Great Tribute snapped after passing the winning post and Srinath was dislodged near the 1800 metres. He escaped unhurt and completed his further engagement for the day. Double Trouble, Princess Rumela and Ravishing Snow were the horses that were withdrawn.

Jockey Suraj Narredu had it easy on S.Rakesh trained Excelonce (China Visit-Exquisite / Usha Stud) in the concluding race of the day, the Haveri Plate. Moving swiftly from an outward draw Excelonce was on the haunches of the leader Diamond Attraction early in the race. Excelonce took charge before approaching the final turn and won uncontested. Diamond Attraction stayed on in second while Haloween’s Way came in late to place third in front of Sans Frontieres.

G.Sandhu trained Black Lightening (Oath-Andaluz / Pratap Stud)scored a maiden win in the division I of the Ranganathittu Plate. Racing a close third behind Oceana and Export Quality, Black Lightening surged ahead on top of the straight and won pulling away from Export Quality. Oceana was third further away and Princess Holly filled the frame. Flaming Spear and Own Script were non-starters in the race.

In the lower division Sharat Kumar trained Kudla Punch (Rebuttal-Wile Wench / Hazara Stud) justified the favouritism with a runaway victory. After jumping out from an outward draw Kudla Punch moved up gradually to get to the inner rails. As they turned for home Kudla Punch slipped in through the shortest way and drew clear by a widening nine lengths. Kanthaka, Desert Gold and Rocket Punch filled the frame in that order.

Jockey S. John who had ridden Kudla Punch in the opener had another armchair ride on T. Natraj trained Sazae San (Rebuttal-Tranquill / Hazara Stud) in the Shimsha Plate. Heading to the front within the first furlong of the race, Sazae San who had remained a maiden from 28 starts won as she wanted on the straight. Giralda just managed to collar Graceland for the second place. Safe Bet finished fourth.
