Trainer K Satheesh leading Happy Guy (C P Bopanna Up), winner of The Telangana Race Horse Owners Association Trophy

K.Satheesh trained Happy Guy (Slickly-Ladyfish) was ridden tactfully by young apprentice C.P.Boppanna to lift the Telangana Race Horse Owners Association Trophy on Monday at Hyderabad. As the dozen runners in the highest class were dispatched for the mile trip Mr Baahubali stormed to the front and had opened a big lead of almost a distance as they headed past the half way stage. Boppanna was quick to realize that the leader was trying to steal the race and moved to be a clear second. On entering the straight Mr Baahubali was still clearly ahead but Happy Guy was fast eating into the lead. With 100 metres Happy Guy flashed past Mr Baahubali and staved off the late bid of Ashwa Raftar. Western Wind completed the frame in fourth.

Ashwa Bahula (Mull Of Kintyre-LII Najma / Sohna Stud) was impressive while scoring an encore in the Raja Rjk Ranga Rao, Zamindar of Chikkavaram Memorial Cup. The filly trained by Anupam Sharma lost position in the initial stages of the race to fall back to second last but the rider B.R. Kumar started to bring her from around the field. With about 300 metres left from home there were half a dozen horses bunched up together and Ashwa Bahula swept past them all from the wide outside and drew clear. Negress Pearl, On The Fire and Meritocracy went past the winning post in a cluster in that order for the minor places.

K. Satheesh had earlier in the day scored through Surprise Party (Noverre-Bridgeofsighs) in the Camino Cup. The 4 years old filly who is in pink of condition this season bounced back to earn her fourth win from six starts. Carrying the top weight of 60 kilos the filly stormed to the front to lead the pack of 12 runners. Reach The Heights and News O’Star who were in chase tired out approaching the final furlong. Apowerx moved up strongly and was ridden hard to collar the leader but Surprise Party kicked on well to the post. Texas Rodeo finished third in a photo finish from Rapidamente.

Trainer S.S. Faisal Hassan and jockey Akshay Kumar teamed up to score a well earned treble, all in short sprints. Supurinto (Green Coast-Golden Shower) just managed to edge out King David in the division I of the Pleasure Hunt Plate. The filly raced in about sixth till the last 300 metres and started to move up from the outside. Space Ship, King David was in a duel in front but the first named lost steam inside the last furlong. Divine Heights then joined King David in the fight. Supurinto was getting stronger from the outside but began drifting out of the straight course. The three flashed past the winning post together and it was Supurinto that had hit the post first from King David and Divine Heights. Cash Landing completed the frame.

The trainer jockey combination packed a punch in both the divisions of the Elite Zone Plate. Wood Bridge (Win Legend-Premier Panache) opened its account in the lower division , the opening race of the day. The youngster rallied well in the early stages to move up from the outermost draw and be on the haunches of the leader Divine Silver. Mid-way up the straight Wood Bridge surged ahead and stayed clear of Royal Dancer till the post. Tough Sussex and Negress Princess finished third and fourth respectively.

The third win came through Snow Castle (Green Coast-Ice Castle) in the higher division. Star Glow set off on a start to finish bid over the 1100 metres dash and was looking good with 100 metres left from the post. Snow Castle racing in third till entering the straight spurted well towards the closing stages and managed to get the better of Star Glow in the shadow of the winning post. Recumbentibus finished third followed by Island Queen.

Ananta Vatsalya trained Golden Joy (Hurricane Centre-Vice) rallied strongly under apprentice Rafiq Sk to win the lower division of the Pleasure Hunt Plate. The 4 year old, a 8-1 shot in the field raced in fourth from the start and on entering the straight shifted towards the inside to go for it. After fighting with Wild Heart for a brief while Golden Joy surged clear by a length. Golden Image and Composure finished third and fourth respectively. Pixie Girl was a non-starter in the race.

Arjun Anne trained Nelly (Opportunist-Galloping Fantasy) completed a hat-trick in fine fashion in the Tick Tock Plate, the concluding race of the day. The 5 year old mare raced in about sixth or seventh till rounding for home. Moon Walker slipped in to the lead through the shortest way as they straightened for home and Nelly was also quick to make way between horses and be on its haunches. Inside the last 200 metres Nelly travelled the better under Md Ismail and stretched out easily. Cash For Rank and Naamdhari ended up in a close finish for the third and fourth places respectively.
