Trainer Rajesh Narredu leading Super Smart (Suraj Narredu Up), winner of The Gayatri Devi Memorial Trophy

Rajesh Narredu trained Super Smart (Alnasr Alwasheek-Persepolis) was given a perfect ride by Suraj Narredu to lift the Gayatri Devi Memorial Trophy on Saturday at Mysore. The gelding was settled well in about fifth in the initial stages of the race when Sterling Role raced ahead to lead the field. Inside the last 300 metres Sterling Role was still leading the pack and was working hard to kick on. Suraj timed his run from the outside and Super Smart responded with a fine gallop and the winner was sighted even before he could pass the filly in front. Perfect Legacy finished third followed by the race favourite Reference.

S. Padmanabhan’s trainee Into The Spotlight (Alnasr Alwasheek-Radiate) that had let down its supporters in the last effort, bounced back to score an impressive victory in the Forester’s Trophy. Jumping out from an outward draw, Into The Spotlight moved up steadily to race behind the leader Queenofgoodtimes. Passing the 400 metres board on the home stretch jockey Y.S.Srinath loosened the reins on Into The Spotlight and the chestnut colt breezed ahead to take charge and extended the margin of victory to over five lengths. Sydney Harbour laboured hard in second place followed by Majestic Style and I’ve Got Clout. Topaz was withdrawn after being troublesome in the gates.

Justice Angel (Arazan-Star Angel / Poona Stud) was another in the day to score a fashionable win in the Gool ans Soli Poonawalla Memorial Trophy. The filly trained by Imtiaz Khan proved herself to be a confirmed sprinter while decimating the field. Brown Beauty was led from the start and was out of steam on entering the straight. Krieger charged to the front first but T.S. Jodha steered Justice Angel through the rails and the filly slipped in effortlessly and stretched out to win by a lengthening margin. Krieger held on in second from Super Success. Aliboxer finished fourth.

Sadeek (Royal Gladiator-Gold Plus / Pratap Stud) from the stables of M. Bobby prevailed over the hot favourite Steinlight in the Setia Teknologi Trophy. Tigris was out in front entering the straight and the filly was ridden out to stay there. Steinlight came under pressure when asked to quicken and started to run a bit green. Sadeek, a winner in the previous start moved fluently from around the duo in front and shot to the lead under K.Sai Kiran. Steillight was ridden hard by Srinath he could only manage to beat Tigris for the second place.

Jockey Sai Kiran was the only rider to score a double in the day. He piloted Warren Singh trained Nanhipari (Pinson-Bourbon Queen) in the Sharan Lakshmanan Memorial Trophy to be the biggest upset of the day. The grey filly raced a close third along the rails in the early stages with High Response and Nicaragua ahead of her.  Nanhipari had surged ahead as they moved into the last 350 metres and the relentless effort of Sai Kiran enabled the filly to stave off the late bid of Ultimate Warrior and the favourite Sedulous. So Mi Dar completed the frame.

Samar Singh trained Romantic Helen (Rebuttal-Karasiyca / Hazara Stud) made every post a winning one in the division I of the Bottolonda Trophy. The 4 year old filly had finished a suggestive third in the last run here and trainer Samar Singh had opted for allowance with apprentice Sunil Samson. Utilising the allowance to full advantage, Romantic Helen, shot ahead to lead the packed field right from the start. The favourite Flicka was in futile chase right through the final furlong as Romantic Helen kicked on. Unbelievable and Santorini Secret finished third and fourth respectively.

In the lower division of the race the only lady trainer in this part of the country, Parvati Byramji led in her first winner on this track with Surf Romance (Surfrider-Romantic Quest / Ruia Stud). The youngster had impressed while finishing third on debut at Bangalore and was sent off as the piping hot favourite for the opening event of the day. Off to a quick start from the innermost draw Surf Romance set off in the lead and was never challenged. Jockey Suraj Narredu did well to nurse the bay colt as he urged him to extend the lead in the straight. Perfectgoldenera, Star Line and Aerospeed filled the frame in that order. Halfsies was a non-starter in the race.

G. Srinivas Babu trained Ice Weapon (Black Cash-Willy Nilly /Equus Stud) that had run unplaced in all the starts this season, surprised everyone winning the R.M.Puttanna Memorial Trophy. The 8 year old surged ahead in the centre of the track as they came into the last 300 metres and fought its way with Alps who came from the wider outside. Time Always rallied in third followed by Grace And Glory. Graceland was withdrawn near the gates after being troublesome.
