Dr A C Muthiah & trainer S Ganapathy leading Magistero (Y S Srinath Up), winner of The Dr.M.A.M.Ramaswamy Trophy

The ever popular ‘Goldie Brown’ silks was in the limelight on Friday with a well earned treble including the main event of the day that was instituted in memory of the doyen of Indian racing, Dr. M.A.M. Ramaswamy. All the three winners were trained by S.Ganapathy. Magistero (Rebuttal-Zacheta’s Girl / Hazara Stud) was ridden brilliantly by Y.S. Srinath to lift the Dr.M.A.M. Ramaswamy Trophy in a nail biting finish from Amazing Redd. Luck also favoured Srinath as the rider of Amazing Redd lost his whip at a crucial juncture (at about 150 metres) from home. Kazuri came with a threatening run between the pair inside the final furlong only to finish a close third. Anvill Star completed the frame.

The other two victors from the stable were Great Tribute and Air Of Distinction. Great Tribute (Rio De La Plata-Ask For Love / Hazara Stud) carried the top weight to an encore in the Nandi Plate. The bay colt sent off as the hot favourite for the 1400 metres trip raced a handy fifth till approaching the final bend. On entering the straight Y.S.Srinath brought Great Tribute from the outside and Classical Dancer took the inner path. The two came away from the rest of them and after a brief duel Great Tribute surged ahead and won well. Firing Line improved late to deny the third place to High Admiral.

Air Of Distinction (Excellent Art-Gold Marie / Poonawalla Exhillaration Stud) that had finished on board in seven of the eight starts but had not made it to the winners’ circle finally came good in the division I of the Mulki Plate. The gelding raced in mid-field till rounding the bend and ranging up from around the front runners stormed ahead to grab the lead on entering the straight. Air Of Distinction extended the lead under P.P. Dhebe to be over 5 lengths in front of Croziet finishing second. Perfectgoldenera ended up third and then came High Voltage.

Sagrada (Ivory Touch-Le Miracle / Mare Haven Stud) turned out to be the ‘Doosra’ from the stables of M.Rajendra Singh, beating the heavily fancied stable mate Idealist in the Sea Mist Plate. Sagrada paid a whopping Rs.710 for a tenner on tote for win. Sagrada tracked the leader Markus Sittikus till turning for home and stormed to the front on entering the straight. The 6 year old gelding ridden by B. Harish stretched out to extend the lead even as Idealist rallied into second. Flirting Eyes and Honour placed third and fourth respectively. Blue Blazer and Implicit Trust were non-starters in the race.

Rajendra Singh had earlier in the day sent out Florencia (Mull Of Kintyre-Confiserie / Mebajeona Stud) to come of the maiden ranks in its 21st attempt in the lower division of the Mulki Plate. The filly had run suggestively into second in the previous run and was installed as the firm favourite. The top weighted Smile Of Peace went to the front early in the race and brought the field into view on the straight. Florencia raced close behind with Rocket Punch and Noble Princess for company on either side. Inside the last 400 metres Florencia took over the running with minimum effort and kicked on well even as Santa Fe came with a late surge along the rails. Rocket Punch and Smile Of Peace finished third and fourth respectively. Incitatus and Dontworrymonday were withdrawn.

Jockey S.John guided Golden Steps (Don Michelleto-Miraflores / Nakul Stud) to an easy win in the Nyveli Plate. The 7 year old mare shot to the lead as the gates opened but settled well in second when Kodals Princess moved up from an outward draw to streak ahead. Approaching the last 300 metres Golden Steps regained the lead and galloped well to keep Safe Bet at Bay. Ice Weapon finished third followed by As Always.

The in-form Matteo (Tariq-Stunning Wonder / Equus Stud) from trainer S.M. Johnson’s yard scored an encore in the Esquire Plate. Racing a handy fourth till turning for home, Matteo took the shortest way to be up with the leader Teri Adah and with S.John riding forcefully, stretched out easily. King Smile was looking to finish second but Six Ace Red came in with a rattle from the inside to snatch it. Teri Adah stayed on in fourth.
