Trainer Dinesh Pujar (Deputising Trainer Irfan Ghatala) leading Watchmyscript (S John Up), winner of The Fair Wood Plate

In a thrilling finish Irfan Ghatala trained Watchmyscript (Whatsthescript-Yas Marina / Nanoli Stud) nailed Karol on the post in the Fair Wood Plate, a mile trip for horses rated 60 and above. Flamboyance finished in the same picture frame in third but was promoted to second position following a successful objection against the runner-up.

Flamboyance had got to the front early in the race and was on a start to finish bid. As they turned for home Karol ranged up from the outside and breezed past Flamboyance and while doing so shifted in rather violently thereby chopping off the stride of Flamboyance. Karol looked to be heading towards the winning post comfortably with 100 metres left when Watchmyscript came flying from the rear and stuck its neck in front at the wire. Flamboyance also galloped with a re-run to finish a close third. An objection by the rider of Flamboyance against that of Karol was upheld by the stewards. Ravelnation completed the frame.

G. Sandhu trained Black Lightning (Oath-Andaluz / Pratap Stud), a winner in the lower class in its previous outing scored an encore in the division I of the W.T. Craig-Jones Memorial Trophy. Apprentice R.N. Darshan took Black Lightning to the front right from the word ‘go’ and came in first on the straight> Breaking Away was in chase for a brief while on the straight and gave up. With a furlong left Autocratic came devouring ground from the rear and looked to be trouncing the field but the rider lost his left stirrup and just managed to balance himself on the slipped saddle. As Autocratic lost the momentum Havelock Princess slipped into second. Fire Rainbow finished in fourth.

In the lower division of the race Mahmood Khan trained Alvarez (Burden Of Proof-Miss Highjinks / Kunigal Stud) pulled off a big upset. Humming Bird had set out on a start to finish bid and looked good inside the final furlong with a lead of over two lengths. Alvarez started to cover ground from behind and with a flying finish necked out Humming Bird on the last stride. Shivalik Crown and Mischief Flyer finished third and fourth respectively.

S.Rakesh trained Skyjet (Glory Of Dancer-Desert Sky / Manju Meadows) upset the applecart of the favourite Master Of Universe in the Kasargod Plate. The race favourite Master Of Universe had overtaken Enthralling with a furlong left and was fighting hard to keep the lead when Skyjet raised a fluent gallop to flash ahead in front of the grand stand. Enthralling was a close third followed by Greek Goddess.

Unbelievable (Phoenix Tower-Star Conquest / Manjri Stud) pulled off a runaway victory in the division I of the Nugu Dam Plate. Racing a handy sixth till the final bend, Unbelievable made a swift move around the front runners rounding the turn and grabbed the lead as they straightened up. The filly broke away from the pack and extended the margin of victory even as Golden Cruise rallied on to finish second. Sans Frontieres held on in third from the last finiehing Lord Iishley. Stella Mari was withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

In the lower division Ireland (Tariq-Jade Image / Capricon Stud) fought it out fiercely with Amazing and held on by a neck at the finish. Ayahuasca was in the lead from the start and held forte till approaching the last furlong. Ireland and Amazing moved up simultaneously from the outside and the duo went all out till the wire and the former held out at the all important end. Forest Queen and Precious Script took the third and fourth spot respectively in a close finish. Accelerating Star and Elica were withdrawn on veterinary grounds.

Prashant Pramod Dhebe rode out B.Prithviraj’s Fotogenic (Varenar-Magical Mona / Equus Stud) to a popular win in the higher division of the Penambur Plate. Fotogenic had won last almost 15 months ago and the 5 year old mare was backed down to be the favourite for the 7 furlongs race. Fotogenic was in mid group till approaching the final bend and improving gradually was up with a challenge from the outside with 300 metres left from home. Fotogenic travelled the best in the final furlong and won well from Reverberating. Zala Princess warmed up late to finish third ahead of Shivalik Girl. Karod Pati and Piper Regina were withdrawn on veterinary grounds near the gates.

Mahmood Khan’s Granada (Kingda Ka-Whisper City / Broadacres Stud) made it a pillar to post affair in the lower division. Angel One made a late bid from the extreme outside but could only land up in second in front of Emancipation. Durer completed the frame.
