The Mumbai racing season 2017-18 will get off the blocks on this Sunday, 19th November 2017 and the 39-day season is packed with exciting races right through until mid-April 2018.

The RWITC has geared up well as always and have stitched up a string of competitive races. Mumbai racing has always commanded top billing and the city has an aura of superiority and the same stands for the racing front. The add-ons in the form of glamour and entertainment remain unmatched.

Dr Ram Shroff, member of the managing committee of the club was optimistic on the new season. “The RWITC has always taken care that the Mumbai season goes one better each year. We ensure that there is something for everyone both in terms of racing action and off the turf activity as well. Also due attention is given for the racing patrons with innovative contests and the public participation has always been encouraging. The ’Quinella Ka Dhamaka’ introduced during the Pune season was to give the tote punter a chance to get high returns on investment on one of our pools. It was a huge success. I am happy to state that the same will be on offer during the Mumbai season as well and we have found a sponsor in Spartan Poker. This will enhance the chances of reaping in substantial returns on investment for the tote punters. Overall, the season is certain to be one of the best at Mumbai,” said Shroff.

Thursday races will be conducted under lights and the season will have 23 days of evening racing. The phone charges will go up slightly for the Members’ enclosure from December onwards, while it will remain the same for the first enclosure. The Annual Auction Sale returns to Mumbai and will be held in February 2018.

The biggest weekend will certainly be the Indian Derby weekend slated on the 3rd & 4th February 2018. “Yes, the Derby weekend will have all the fanfare and festivities. It is an event that the entire city comes alive. We are up to the task and will showcase a truly rich event. United Spirits Ltd, our long time sponsor for the Indian Derby have unfortunately not confirmed to continue the sponsorship after the contract ended after the 2017 edition of the big race. However, United Breweries Ltd are on board and we have a list of sponsors that will ensure the high-voltage atmosphere will be as exciting as can be,” said Dr Shroff.

The current crisis at the Bangalore Turf Club is a concern for the entire racing fraternity and the RWITC too is concerned as the dead-lock has its implications on the Club’s financials as well. It is hoped that things will ease off and racing will restart at Bangalore soon.

Well then folks, get into your Sunday suits brace for the racing action at the famed Mahalaxmi racecourse this Sunday. A sedate card of seven races are on offer, however, with the promising filly Ruffina owned by renowned Industrialist and Philanthropist Dr Cyrus Poonawalla, is one good reason to see the star filly in action. Indiarace wishes everyone a enjoyable and profitable Mumbai season.
