Lady In Lace (Chinese Whisper-Sea Spray /Tohana Stud), ‘The Pride of Hyderabad’ as rightly referred to by the race caller scored in an astonishing fashion in the Golconda 1000 Guineas (Gr.2). The bay filly trained by K.S.V.Prasad Raju after winning the Pune Derby was sent off as ‘money back’ favourite for the first classic of the winter season at her home centre. Suraj Narredu, a veteran of many Classics held the filly off the pace, almost eight lengths behind the leader Malawi. As they turned for the long final stretch at Malakpet Lady In Lace was put into race mode from the extreme outside and the filly produced a scintillating acceleration to be sighted a winner long way from home. For the record Mahateji finished as the runner-up, followed by Mansuetude and Eternal Angel.

Corfe Castle (Excellent Art-Miss Danehill) from the stables of L.D’Silva made an impressive debut in the division I of the Brave Dancer Plate. Jockey David Allan had come down to Malakpet just to ride Corfe Castle and the champion that he is handled the youngster to a nicety. Corfe Castle was drawn the widest for the 1100 metres dash and the bay colt was a bit sluggish at start. David did not look perturbed by the awkward start and nursed the youngster easily through the field. As they approached the last 200 metres five horses were spread out in front and Corfe Castle shot through them and stromed into the lead. While the son of Excellent Art strode out like a champion, Icon Grey finished on in second followed by Lazer Beam and Smarty.

M.Srinivas Reddy trained Man Apart (Varenar-Mandara) ridden by P.Trevor scored a pillar to post victory in the lower division. The chestnut gelding with the benefit of a run was sent off as the favourite among the eleven runners in the field. After a smart jump out from an inward draw, Man Apart shot to the lead. Entering the home stretch Man Apart had a clear lead of over four lengths and with Trevor going easy on the youngster, stretched away from the rest. In a close finish for the minor places Nimble Mind just managed to edge out Meka’s for the runner-up berth. Durango completed the frame.

Jockey Trevor scored again on S.S.Attaollahi trained Sea Fairey (Multidimensional-Sea Princess / Usha Stud) in the Ghulam Ahmed Memorial Cup. Approaching the distance marker King Of Pop, Amorous White and Preciosa were going head to head and Sea Fairey started to move up from the outside. Sea Fairey joined the fight and travelled the best to pull away by a length with Amorous White, King Of Pop and Preciosa heading past the post in that order.

Suraj Narredu had earlier ridden Laxman Singh trained Dance Oh Dance (Lord Admiral-Nance N Celebrate) to a popular win in the Windscale Plate. There was a rush for the lead in the initial stages of the 1200 metres sprint and Dance Oh Dance did well to get to the front followed closely by Warrior Supreme. Inside the last 300 metres Warrior Supreme was hard ridden to make a race of it but Dance Oh Dance and Suraj skipped clear by over three lengths. Snoe Castle and Good Opinion finished third and fourth respectively.

D.Netto trained Platinum Claasz (Lord Admiral-Cannon Baby) opened its account in the division I of the Blue Bird Plate. The grey filly going over the 1400 metres trip for the first time showed plenty of early speed and went into a clear lead. Coming into the straight first, Platinum Claasz kicked on easily and won unchallenged. Dancing Away with a bid on the straight could only beat the rest of them. Halo’s Princess and Buddy Brothers filled the frame in that order.

In the second division of the race M.Sathyanarayana trained Island Queen (Varenar-Sun Absolute) justified the favouritism to score a maiden win. The filly sat in chase of the leader Trumph Boy till the top of the straight and then surged ahead without any fuss with 400 metres left on the straight. She started to pull away from the rest and trounced the opposition. Rohini rallied on in second followed by Novaturient and Touch Of Gold.

It was another maiden performance in the division III of the race with N.Ravinder Singh trainer Withrosemakeup (Green Coast-Passion In The Park) making it to the winner’s circle in its 12th attempt. Racing in about fifth as they turned for home, Withrosemakeup made way between horses inside the last furlong and spurted away by over a length. Blue Angel with a late bid edged out Tough Princess for the second place. Top Sprint completed the frame.
